ABUJA - The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital and New Media, Mr Otega Ogra, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as sustained interventions aimed at strengthening the capacity of teachers and repositioning Nigeria’s education sector for greater productivity.

Ogra stated this on Monday while speaking with newsmen on the sidelines of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration held at Eagle Square, Abuja, where he highlighted the pivotal role of teachers in translating education policies into meaningful outcomes in the classroom.

He said the administration’s emphasis on teacher development, professional capacity building and skills enhancement was critical to equipping educators with the competencies required to navigate the changing demands of contemporary education.

According to him, the transformation of the education sector cannot be achieved without simultaneously investing in the human capital responsible for imparting knowledge and shaping the next generation of Nigerians.

Ogra said President Tinubu had demonstrated an appreciation of the strategic place of teachers in national development by supporting initiatives designed to enhance their professional capacity, improve learning outcomes and strengthen the overall architecture of Nigeria’s education system.

He noted that beyond infrastructure and policy interventions, the quality of education ultimately depended on the quality, preparedness and continuous development of teachers, stressing that a well-trained teaching workforce remained indispensable to sustainable national transformation.

The presidential aide also underscored the importance of embracing digital tools and emerging technologies in teaching, noting that educators must be adequately equipped to operate effectively within an increasingly technology-driven learning environment.

He said the celebration provided an opportunity not only to honour teachers for their service and sacrifice but also to reflect on the reforms required to make teaching more attractive, professionally rewarding and capable of producing the skilled workforce needed for Nigeria’s future.

Ogra further acknowledged the resilience of Nigerian teachers, describing them as frontline custodians of knowledge and nation-building whose influence extends beyond the classroom to the formation of responsible citizens and future leaders.

He therefore called for sustained collaboration among the Federal Government, state governments, education stakeholders and teachers’ organisations to consolidate ongoing reforms and ensure that investments in education translate into measurable improvements in teaching and learning.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Tinubu administration to initiatives that strengthen human capital development, stressing that empowering teachers was synonymous with empowering the next generation and laying a stronger foundation for Nigeria’s socio-economic advancement.
