ABUJA - Salihu Murtala, a staff member of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), has been honoured with a fellowship award by the Institute of Chartered Administrators and Diplomats (ICAD), marking a significant milestone in his professional development and administrative career.

The fellowship recognises the importance of professional advancement, leadership development and the acquisition of specialised competencies required to enhance administrative efficiency and strengthen institutional performance across Nigeria’s public sector.

The recognition comes amid growing emphasis on capacity-building for public servants, particularly personnel whose responsibilities demand sound administrative judgment, accountability and effective management of institutional resources.

The fellowship was reportedly conferred at a professional gathering in Abuja, where administrators and other stakeholders examined strategies for developing leadership competencies and improving organisational performance in a challenging economic climate.

The conference, themed “Developing Strategic Competencies for Excelling in a Depressed Economy,” focused on equipping professionals with the strategic knowledge, leadership skills and administrative expertise needed to navigate economic uncertainties and respond effectively to emerging institutional demands.

Murtala’s recognition also highlights the relevance of continuous professional development within the social protection sector. As an employee of the NSITF, an institution responsible for administering Nigeria’s Employees’ Compensation Scheme, professional competence remains important to effective service delivery and the pursuit of institutional objectives.

The fellowship further underscores the value of professional institutions in promoting lifelong learning, ethical standards and leadership development among personnel in both public and private organisations.

Speaking on the recognition, the institute’s Director, G.C. Onyekwere, commended Murtala on the fellowship, noting that professional development and administrative competence are essential to effective institutional management. He also emphasised the importance of recognising individuals who pursue professional advancement and demonstrate a commitment to improving their knowledge and leadership capacity.

Murtala’s fellowship achievement reinforces the importance of investing in human capital as a pathway to stronger public institutions, improved administrative practices and more effective service delivery. It also highlights the contribution of professional development to building a workforce equipped to meet the evolving demands of public administration.
