The Nigerian Institute of Builders in Facilities Management (NIBIFM) has invested Builder Odunmbaku Wilson Olayiwola, FNIOB, FNIBIFM, FIGFM, as its new chairman, ushering in a new phase of institutional leadership aimed at advancing professional standards, strengthening industry collaboration and consolidating facilities management practice in Nigeria.

The investiture ceremony, held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, brought together professionals and stakeholders within the built environment to witness Olayiwola’s formal assumption of leadership. The event also featured the induction of new Fellows into the institute, highlighting the importance of professional distinction, capacity development and institutional growth in the facilities management sector.

Olayiwola is a registered builder and seasoned facilities manager with professional experience spanning the construction industry, management and entrepreneurship. His professional profile reflects competencies in construction operations, customer service, business administration and the application of management tools to organisational efficiency.

Academically, the new chairman holds a master’s degree in Facilities Management from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, an educational background that aligns with the technical and managerial demands of his professional specialisation. His combination of building expertise and facilities management training provides a relevant foundation for leadership in a discipline increasingly central to infrastructure performance and asset sustainability.

Beyond his academic qualifications, Olayiwola is associated with Integrated Technology Limited, based in Abuja, reflecting his engagement in the corporate environment. His professional designations—FNIOB, FNIBIFM and FIGFM—also underscore his affiliations with professional institutions in building and facilities management.

His emergence as NIBIFM chairman comes at a time when effective facilities management has become increasingly important to the performance, safety and longevity of buildings and infrastructure assets. From preventive maintenance and operational efficiency to asset preservation and occupant wellbeing, the discipline plays a critical role in ensuring that investments in the built environment deliver sustainable value.

The investiture also provided a platform to recognise the professional accomplishments of Builder (Mrs.) Florence Ehon Akinyoade, FNIOB, former National Chairperson of the Association of Professional Women Builders of Nigeria (APWBN), who received the Fellowship of NIBIFM. Her elevation highlighted the institute’s recognition of professional advancement and the contribution of experienced practitioners to the development of Nigeria’s built environment.

Akinyoade, an advocate for women’s advancement in construction and affordable housing, has championed professional development and safer building practices. Her fellowship conferment added significance to the ceremony, reinforcing the importance of professional recognition, inclusive leadership and the participation of women in shaping the future of the construction and facilities management industries.

Olayiwola’s investiture therefore represents an important leadership transition for NIBIFM, with expectations centred on professional capacity-building, stronger stakeholder engagement and the promotion of industry best practices. As he assumes office, the institute’s continuing challenge will be to deepen the recognition of facilities management as an indispensable component of sustainable infrastructure development and professional excellence in Nigeria.
