ABUJA - Encomiums have continued to trail the conferment of the Pan-African Peace Envoy honour on Ambassador Sarah Jackson Solomon, Country Director, Nigeria, Pan-African Peace Envoy Assembly (PAEA), at the 2026 Pan-African Peace, Leadership and Governance Summit in Abuja, in a recognition that elevates her leadership trajectory within the continent’s expanding architecture of peace diplomacy, dialogue and strategic engagement.
Ambassador Jackson was decorated with the prestigious distinction at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, where diplomats, peace advocates, policy stakeholders, professionals, business leaders, development practitioners and representatives of youth and women’s groups converged for a high-level interrogation of Africa’s peace, leadership and governance imperatives.
Convened by Ambassador Dr Kingsley Onuche under the auspices of the Peace Ambassadors Advocacy Network (PAAN), the summit, themed “Advancing Peace, Inclusive Leadership & Strategic Partnerships for Africa’s Future,” provided a consequential platform for examining the intersection of peace diplomacy, inclusive leadership, responsible governance and strategic partnerships in shaping Africa’s future.
For Jackson, the conferment carries a distinctive institutional weight, given the strategic responsibilities attached to the office of Country Director, Nigeria, PAEA. Her recognition therefore represents an affirmation of the growing importance of country-level diplomatic coordination and peace advocacy in translating continental ideals into purposeful stakeholder engagement, dialogue and peacebuilding interventions.
Her elevation as a Pan-African Peace Envoy also adds a broader diplomatic dimension to her leadership profile, positioning Jackson within a continental network of advocates committed to advancing peaceful coexistence and constructive engagement. In this capacity, the envoy platform provides an avenue for strengthening bridges across institutions, communities and stakeholder groups while amplifying the values of dialogue and social cohesion.
The honour further underscores the changing architecture of peacebuilding in Africa, where diplomacy increasingly extends beyond conventional state-to-state engagement to encompass professional networks, civil society, community actors and influential individuals. Against this backdrop, the role of peace envoys becomes increasingly significant in fostering dialogue, encouraging consensus-building and supporting initiatives that promote stability.
Speaking at the occasion, Ambassador Dr Kingsley Onuche, Convener of the summit, commended Solomon and other distinguished honourees, stressing the importance of recognising individuals whose leadership and influence can be harnessed in advancing the continent’s peace agenda and strengthening the culture of responsible engagement.
Onuche also called for a more robust ecosystem of strategic partnerships involving governments, diplomatic institutions, professional organisations, private-sector actors, civil society and emerging leaders. He noted that Africa’s complex peace and development challenges require collaborative frameworks capable of converting dialogue into action and partnerships into sustainable outcomes.
The summit featured the Pan-African Peace Envoy Assembly, Pan-African Youth Peace Envoy Assembly, Girls & Women Speak Ambassadors and the Peace Diplomacy Simulation Programme, providing complementary platforms for intergenerational diplomacy, inclusive participation and the cultivation of a new generation of peace advocates across Africa.
As a Pan-African Peace Envoy and Country Director, Nigeria, Pan-African Peace Envoy Assembly (PAEA), Ambassador Sarah Jackson Solomon now joins a distinguished community of advocates entrusted with advancing the values of peace, dialogue, justice and social cohesion across the continent. The honour represents not only recognition of her standing as a peacebuilder, strategic leader and advocate of constructive engagement, but also a call to deploy her expertise, influence and diplomatic reach towards strengthening peaceful coexistence, deepening dialogue and contributing to a more united, stable and prosperous Africa.
