ABUJA - Funmilayo Morebise, a Director at the National Universities Commission (NUC), has earned professional recognition for her administrative competence and leadership capacity, with the honour highlighting the importance of professional development and strategic leadership in Nigeria’s public service.
The recognition was conferred at a professional gathering in Abuja, where administrators and other stakeholders examined strategies for strengthening institutional performance, building leadership capacity and improving administrative effectiveness amid prevailing economic challenges.
According to details contained in the certificate issued by the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, Morebise was elected an Administrator in 2026 after satisfying the institute’s admission requirements. The certificate identifies competence in administrative functions, leadership strategies and outstanding performance as the basis for the recognition.
The professional gathering, held on Saturday at Green Minds Hotel, Abuja, featured discussions on the need to equip professionals with relevant competencies to navigate an increasingly demanding economic environment. Participants examined the role of strategic thinking, institutional accountability and effective management in advancing organisational objectives.
The conference, themed “Developing Strategic Competencies for Excelling in a Depressed Economy,” underscored the importance of continuous capacity-building in preparing professionals to respond to emerging administrative and economic realities.
Morebise’s recognition is particularly relevant to the higher education sector, where administrative coordination, regulatory oversight and institutional governance remain essential to effective service delivery. As a Director at the NUC, she serves within an institution responsible for regulating university education in Nigeria.
The recognition also draws attention to the significance of professional development among public-sector officials, whose responsibilities require sound judgment, organisational discipline and the ability to translate institutional objectives into effective administrative outcomes.
Speaking on the recognition, the institute’s Director, G.C. Onyekwere, lauded Morebise, noting that the honour reflected the importance of administrative competence, strategic leadership and professional excellence in strengthening institutional performance. He also emphasised the value of recognising professionals whose capabilities align with the principles of effective administration.
The certificate issued to Morebise bears the year 2026 and registration number 6-2554. While the document confirms her election as an Administrator by the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, the separate claim that she received an ICAD Fellowship Award requires confirmation from the relevant fellowship certificate or official announcement.
Morebise’s recognition and Onyekwere’s commendation highlight the continuing relevance of professional capacity-building in strengthening institutional administration. The development also reinforces the importance of leadership development, accountability and administrative excellence in supporting the effective functioning of Nigeria’s public institutions.
