Builder (Mrs.) Florence Ehon Akinyoade, FNIOB, former National Chairperson of the Association of Professional Women Builders of Nigeria (APWBN), has been elevated to the Fellowship cadre of the Nigerian Institute of Builders in Facilities Management (NIBIFM), marking another milestone in her professional trajectory within Nigeria’s built environment sector.

The conferment took place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, during the investiture ceremony of the institute’s new chairman, Builder Odunmbaku Wilson Olayiwola, FNIOB, FNIBIFM. The ceremony brought professional recognition and leadership transition into focus, underscoring the importance of institutional continuity and professional excellence in the facilities management industry.

Akinyoade’s elevation to the fellowship cadre further reinforces her standing within the building profession, where technical competence, leadership experience and commitment to industry advancement remain critical benchmarks of professional distinction. The recognition also places renewed emphasis on the contributions of seasoned practitioners to the development of a more resilient, efficient and sustainable built environment.

As a former National Chairperson of APWBN, the women’s wing of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), Akinyoade has been associated with initiatives designed to strengthen women’s participation in the construction industry, promote professional capacity development and expand opportunities for female practitioners in a traditionally male-dominated sector.

Her leadership experience has also aligned with broader efforts to promote occupational safety, professional accountability and the adoption of improved construction practices. These priorities remain significant to the industry’s pursuit of quality assurance, structural integrity and sustainable infrastructure delivery across Nigeria.

Beyond her institutional engagements, Akinyoade is an advocate for affordable housing, a critical development concern amid the country’s persistent housing deficit and the growing demand for safe, accessible and cost-effective residential infrastructure. Her advocacy underscores the need for coordinated professional interventions, innovative building solutions and effective facilities management systems to improve housing delivery and long-term asset sustainability.

The fellowship conferment also draws attention to the strategic relevance of facilities management in the lifecycle of buildings and infrastructure, particularly in ensuring operational efficiency, maintenance sustainability, occupant safety and the preservation of asset value. As Nigeria continues to grapple with infrastructure and housing challenges, the role of qualified professionals in advancing these objectives remains indispensable.

Meanwhile, Olayiwola’s investiture as chairman of NIBIFM signals a new chapter in the institute’s leadership, with expectations that the administration will deepen professional engagement, strengthen institutional development and promote best practices in facilities management. His professional designations, FNIOB and FNIBIFM, reflect his affiliations with the building profession and the institute, respectively.

Akinyoade’s emergence as a NIBIFM Fellow therefore represents a notable professional milestone, while the investiture ceremony highlights the continuing evolution of leadership and professional recognition within Nigeria’s built environment sector. Her recognition adds to the broader discourse on professional excellence, women’s leadership and the imperative of sustainable development in the country’s construction and facilities management industries.
