ABUJA — Ugonne Wunyi, a distinguished development strategist, governance practitioner and public policy specialist, has been elevated to the Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management (CIISM), in recognition of her sustained professional contributions to development effectiveness, institutional transformation, strategic programme delivery and inclusive governance.

Wunyi was inducted on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Murjanatu House, 1st Zambezi Crescent, Maitama, Abuja, during CIISM’s Executive Strategic Master Class and Fellowship Induction Ceremony, which convened professionals and practitioners from diverse sectors for high-level engagement on strategic leadership, organisational performance, information management and the imperatives of translating institutional vision into measurable outcomes.

With more than 15 years of multidisciplinary experience, Wunyi has carved a distinctive professional niche at the confluence of development strategy, public policy, governance, programme and portfolio leadership, gender and social inclusion, humanitarian intervention and institutional administration. Her career has been characterised by the capacity to navigate complex development ecosystems and support government in conceptualising, designing and implementing large-scale, high-impact interventions across national and sub-national spheres.

Her professional footprint has further been enriched by engagements with ActionAid Nigeria and the World Bank Group, where she currently contributes strategic programme, operational and coordination expertise to major development interventions. Her portfolio of experience encompasses initiatives including the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES), Community and Social Development Project (CSDP) and National Social Safety Nets Programme (NASSP), alongside other development and regional initiatives.

Through these engagements, Wunyi has operated within the architecture of development programming where policy intelligence, institutional coordination, evidence-based planning, stakeholder alignment and implementation discipline are critical to achieving sustainable outcomes. Her professional interventions have contributed to programmes addressing social protection, economic empowerment, environmental sustainability, community-driven development and livelihood enhancement, particularly within contexts involving poor and vulnerable populations.

Her intellectual and professional formation equally reflects a deliberate progression towards policy leadership and strategic governance. Wunyi is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Policy Analysis at Nasarawa State University, following a master’s degree in Governance, Development and Public Policy from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex, United Kingdom, and a bachelor’s degree in English from Nasarawa State University. She is also a Senior Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria and holds the FCISM designation, in addition to specialised professional and World Bank certifications.

The Fellowship induction was held alongside the CIISM Executive Strategic Master Class themed “The Strategic Manager: Mastering Formulation, Implementation & Control,” providing a strategic learning platform around formulation, execution, performance evaluation, governance, accountability and ethical leadership. Speaking at the programme, CIISM Registrar, Dr. Adelanke Oyintoke, emphasised the indispensability of information to organisational success, noting that strategy remains a continuous process and that deficiencies at the implementation stage can compromise strategic intentions.

Wunyi’s elevationtion to the CIISM Fellowship therefore represents a significant professional inflection point in a career distinguished by development-sector expertise, policy scholarship and strategic programme leadership.
