Philanthropist Olubunmi Mary Gbadewole Appointed IAWPA Eminent Peace Ambassador

ABUJA — Encomiums have continued to trail the conferment of the prestigious Eminent Peace Ambassador Award on Dr. Olubunmi Mary Gbadewole, Founder of Marycrown Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of Crownbee Luxury Properties, by the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), in recognition of her humanitarian service, philanthropy, leadership and contributions to societal development.

The recognition was conferred in Abuja during the National Stakeholders’ Security Dialogue organised to commemorate the United Nations International Day of Police Cooperation, bringing together stakeholders from government, security agencies, civil society organisations and other critical sectors to deliberate on strategies for strengthening peace, security and sustainable development in Nigeria.

The dialogue, held under the theme, “Policing for Peace: Building Synergy for a Safer Nigeria,” provided a strategic platform for stakeholders to examine the importance of stronger collaboration, constructive dialogue, community engagement and collective action in addressing security challenges and promoting peaceful coexistence.

IAWPA, an international non-governmental organisation with Special Consultative Status under the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 2019, said its Eminent Peace Ambassador Award is reserved for individuals whose work demonstrates measurable societal impact, independent leadership and alignment with global peace and development priorities, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Association stressed that the honour is strictly merit-based and is not conferred on the basis of affiliation or ceremonial participation, but on the substance, scale and sustainability of documented contributions to society.

Dr. Gbadewole’s
humanitarian record was particularly highlighted, with her Marycrown Foundation providing empowerment and support to vulnerable persons, including less-privileged people and widows. In 2026 alone, her humanitarian interventions have reached about 4,000 beneficiaries, reflecting a sustained commitment to extending practical assistance to people facing social and economic challenges.

Beyond empowerment initiatives and humanitarian giveaways, Dr. Gbadewole has also demonstrated a commitment to community-based development through the construction of a primary healthcare centre at Kobi Community, Asokoro, Abuja. The intervention adds a critical social-development dimension to her philanthropic activities, particularly in supporting access to basic healthcare at the community level.

As a humanitarian expert, philanthropist and real estate developer, Dr. Gbadewole has also established a leadership footprint through
Crownbee Luxury Properties, combining entrepreneurship with a broader commitment to social impact. Her recognition by IAWPA therefore underscores the potential of responsible private-sector leadership and philanthropy to complement wider efforts towards inclusive development and peaceful communities.

Speaking on the honour, Dr. Gbadewole expressed appreciation to IAWPA for the recognition, describing it as a privilege and a renewed responsibility to continue serving humanity. She said the award would further encourage her to expand initiatives aimed at empowering vulnerable people, supporting widows and less-privileged members of society, and contributing to community development and peaceful coexistence.

IAWPA International Spokesman, Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nkweke, said the stakeholders’ dialogue was designed to strengthen peace, security and sustainable development through advocacy, diplomacy and strategic partnerships among government institutions, security agencies, civil society organisations and community stakeholders. 

The IAWPA International Director, Prof. Chidi Ehiriodo, congratulated Dr. Olubunmi Mary Gbadewole on the honour, describing her humanitarian interventions as consistent with the broader values of service, social responsibility and sustainable development.
