Accolades As Jennifer Hembafab Alih Bags Heroes of Nigeria Democracy Award

ABUJA — Chief Mrs. Jennifer Hembafab Alih, Founder and Executive Director of Julebrama Women and Children Initiative (JUWACI), has been conferred with the Heroes of Nigeria Democracy Award by Stech-P Educational Limited, under its Heroes of Nigeria Democracy, Cultural and National Development Scheme, in recognition of her leadership trajectory and sustained contributions to women and children development, community resilience and social inclusion.

The honour was presented during the 66th Nigeria Democracy Lecture, themed “Politics, Governance and the Impact of Leadership in Nigeria’s Democracy, Culture and National Development,” held at the illustrious Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, bringing together stakeholders to reflect on the intersection of leadership, democratic governance, culture and national development.

The evening assumed a defining character as Alih’s name resonated through the hall following the announcement of the honour, placing her development-oriented leadership and community interventions in the spotlight. The recognition also underscored the growing relevance of grassroots initiatives in addressing social vulnerabilities and strengthening the foundations of inclusive development.

Reacting to the honour,
Chief Jennifer Hembafab Alih expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing it as an encouragement to intensify her commitment to service. She said the award would spur her to do more, while charging Nigerians and the country’s leadership to lead by example through responsible citizenship, purposeful leadership and actions that strengthen society.

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Stech-P Educational Limited, Idakwo Oruma Ishiaka, commended Alih’s leadership trajectory, noting her sustained engagement in women and children development and her community-centred approach to social intervention. The commendation further highlighted the significance of recognising leadership whose impact extends beyond individual achievement into the wider community.

Based in Abuja, JUWACI is a Nigerian non-profit organisation dedicated to fostering economically stable, healthy and peaceful households. Its intervention philosophy is anchored on the principle that community resilience begins with household resilience, with emphasis on education, economic stability and social stability as foundations for stronger families and communities.

Under Alih’s leadership, JUWACI has advanced the Sustainable Inclusive Educational Stability for Vulnerable Children (SIES-VC) programme, which evolved from SES-VC in 2025 to provide holistic educational support, caregiver assistance and intentional inclusion of children living with disabilities, reflecting an intervention model that links education with protection and household support.

Her development portfolio also encompasses maternal and child health advocacy, including community outreach and awareness activities around World Breastfeeding Week across the Federal Capital Territory, Benue and Kogi states. The organisation has equally pursued youth empowerment through financial literacy initiatives covering budgeting, savings and responsible financial choices, aimed at strengthening economic agency among young people.

Through advocacy platforms, including The Victoria Show, JUWACI has also facilitated public conversations around critical societal concerns, including legal protections for vulnerable survivors. Alih’s wider development philosophy is reflected in the Hembafan Integrated Resilience Model (HIRM), which places education, economic stability and social resilience at the centre of community transformation.

The presentation of the Heroes of Nigeria Democracy Award adds another significant chapter to Alih’s leadership trajectory, situating her work within the broader national discourse on civic responsibility, social inclusion, women and children development and sustainable national development. Her recognition at the 66th Nigeria Democracy Lecture ultimately highlighted the role of community-focused leadership and civil society intervention in strengthening the social architecture required for resilient families and a more inclusive society.
