Muslim World League Conference: Prof. Bashir Idris Urges Nigerians to Turn Diversity into Strength Against Insecurity

ABUJA — Chairman of Lifidin Jama’A Charity Foundation, Prof. Bashir Idris, has urged Nigerians to harness the country’s diversity as a strength in promoting unity and cooperation towards addressing the challenge of insecurity.

Idris made the call while speaking with NEWSWAY AFRICA reporters on the sidelines of the ongoing Muslim World League International Conference in Abuja, stressing that Nigeria’s ethnic, religious and cultural differences should not become sources of division.

He said the country could effectively address insecurity by utilising its diversity, noting that security remained a paramount concern affecting every citizen, regardless of religious or ethnic affiliation.

“We can address the issue of insecurity by utilising our diversity. Whether you are a Muslim or a Christian, security is a paramount issue to all of us. Let us harness our diversity to find solutions to insecurity,” Idris said.

According to him, Nigeria’s diversity should be viewed as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation, dialogue and mutual understanding rather than as an obstacle to national development and security.

He urged Muslims, Christians and people of other faiths to work together with government authorities, traditional rulers and community leaders to confront insecurity, stressing that collective responsibility was essential to achieving lasting peace.

The conference, organised by the Muslim World League (MWL) in collaboration with Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS Nigeria), brought together Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, governors, members of the National Assembly, senior government officials, interfaith leaders and other prominent stakeholders.

Participants are deliberating on critical issues including national security, peace, religious harmony, peaceful coexistence, national unity, sustainable socio-economic development and measures to address challenges such as terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.

Idris maintained that Nigeria’s diversity could become a powerful instrument for national security and development if properly harnessed, urging citizens to look beyond their differences and embrace unity, cooperation and mutual understanding in the interest of a peaceful, secure and prosperous nation.
