ABUJA — The Deputy Chairman, Qur’anic Memorisation, Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) Nigeria, Ahmed Suleiman Ibrahim, has identified ignorance, poverty and unemployment as major factors contributing to insecurity in Nigeria.

Ibrahim made the observation on Tuesday while speaking with journalists at the ongoing Muslim World League International Conference 2026 in Abuja, where Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, political leaders, government officials and other stakeholders are deliberating on peace, security, religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.

Nigeria is hosting the major international gathering of the Muslim World League (MWL), bringing together distinguished Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, governors, members of the National Assembly, senior Federal Government officials, political leaders and other prominent personalities from Nigeria and beyond.

The conference, hosted under the leadership of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS Nigeria), led by Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, is holding at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, with the participation of the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa.

The JIBWIS chieftain said insecurity should be addressed beyond immediate security measures, stressing that lack of education, poverty and unemployment could create conditions that make young people vulnerable to negative influences and criminal activities.

He called for greater investment in education, skills acquisition, employment opportunities and poverty reduction, urging government, religious leaders, traditional institutions and other stakeholders to work together in tackling the root causes of insecurity.

Ibrahim also urged religious leaders to intensify public enlightenment, promote moral values and encourage peaceful coexistence, stressing that sustained collaboration among stakeholders remains essential to building a peaceful, secure and prosperous Nigeria.
