Lawyers Hangout 2026: Elizabeth Nwodu Urges Young Lawyers to Embrace Professional Excellence in Legal Practice

ABUJA — Barrister Elizabeth Nwodu, a Legal Assistant at the Federal High Court, Abuja, has urged young lawyers to embrace professional excellence, remain adaptable, and keep pace with the changing dynamics of the legal profession to build successful and sustainable careers.

Speaking with Newsway Africa on the sidelines of the 9th edition of Lawyers Hangout 2026, held at the illustrious Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) House in Abuja, Nwodu charged young legal practitioners to stay in tune with the legal system, emerging trends, and developments shaping the profession. She said lawyers must be willing to diversify their knowledge and skills to remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven legal environment.

She encouraged young lawyers to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) and other innovations that can improve legal research, case preparation, document drafting, and service delivery, stressing that technology should be seen as a tool for enhancing efficiency rather than a substitute for legal practitioners.

According to her, the legal profession is constantly evolving, making it imperative for practitioners to engage in continuous learning, acquire new competencies, and position themselves for opportunities across different areas of practice.

Nwodu further noted that Nigeria remains a good place to practise law, describing the country's legal environment as one that offers enormous opportunities for dedicated and resourceful practitioners. She urged young lawyers to uphold integrity, pursue excellence, and take advantage of the numerous prospects available within the profession.

The 9th edition of Lawyers Hangout 2026 brought together judges, senior advocates, legal practitioners, academics, and law students at the Nigerian Bar Association House in Abuja to deliberate on the future of legal practice, with discussions focusing on artificial intelligence, digital transformation, legal innovation, and capacity building for the next generation of lawyers.
