Benue SUBEC Boss Hosts BESS Games Finals as Wurukum School Emerges Overall Champion

MAKURDI — The Executive Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Commission (SUBEC) has hosted the 2024/2025 Basic Education School Sports (BESS) Games State Finals at LGEA Primary School, Mbakunde, with the support of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
The competition provided a platform for young pupils to demonstrate their sporting talents, with participants commended for displaying discipline, courage, teamwork and determination throughout the games.
LGEA Primary School, Wurukum, Makurdi, emerged as the overall champion, an achievement described as a testament to the importance of creating opportunities for children to discover, develop and confidently express their potential through sports and other extracurricular activities.
The SUBEC Chairman expressed appreciation to Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia for providing a Digital Learning Centre and a fully equipped Smart Classroom for the winning school.
According to the SUBEC Boss, the intervention further demonstrates the commitment of the Alia administration to providing modern, standardised and technology-enabled learning environments across public schools in Benue State.
The SUBEC Chairman also witnessed the inauguration of the Divine Consensus for Alia/Tinubu 2027 Support Group, comprising the Divine Consensus and the Divine Consensus Mothers Wing.
Deputy Governor Dr. Sam Ode, mni, represented Governor Alia at the occasion, alongside distinguished party leaders and stakeholders who joined in the commissioning of the support group’s office complex.
The Governor’s donation of 27 motorcycles to the support group was described as a significant demonstration of support for grassroots structures, effective mobilisation and youth empowerment, with the gesture expected to strengthen grassroots engagement and participation.
