Benedict Omaku Bags HR Fellowship, Calls for Stronger Labour Laws, Workers’ Welfare

ABUJA — Benedict Omaku, Fellow, Chartered Institute of Human Resources Management (FCIHRM), has called for stronger labour laws and greater government attention to workers’ welfare, stressing the need for effective policies that protect employees and promote productivity.

Omaku made the call after receiving his Fellowship Award at the 2026 Annual Conference and Induction Ceremony of the Chartered Institute of Human Resources Management, Nigeria, held at the Nigeria Merit Award House, Maitama, Abuja. The annual gathering brought together HR professionals, practitioners and stakeholders to discuss contemporary workplace issues and the future of human resources management in Nigeria.

Speaking on the recognition, Omaku said he was elated to attain the milestone after a decade of practising human resources management, describing the fellowship as another significant feather added to his cap and a testament to his years of dedication to the profession. He pledged to uphold the ethics, values, standards and professional code of conduct of the Institute while continuing to contribute to the advancement of the profession.

He also urged his professional colleagues and other practitioners to embrace continuous learning and professional development, encouraging them to upgrade their knowledge and competencies to remain relevant in an evolving workplace environment. According to him, ethical conduct, competence and professionalism remain critical to maintaining the credibility of human resources management.

Speaking further, Omaku, a professional with Professional Business Consult Limited, urged the government to give greater attention to labour laws and their effective implementation, noting that a robust labour framework would strengthen workers’ protection, improve welfare and promote harmonious relations between employers and employees.

He commended the Chartered Institute of Human Resources Management, Nigeria, for its commitment to professional capacity building and advancement, noting that the conference provided a valuable platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, examine emerging trends and develop innovative approaches to human capital development and organisational effectiveness.
