Accolade as Princess Dr. Victoria Ibokette Receives Honorary Fellowship from Marcus Garvey Institute International

UYO —  Princess Dr. Victoria Ibokette, FICRPC, FICSP, D.PEACE, has received the prestigious Honorary Fellowship of the Marcus Garvey Institute International, Chicago, USA, in recognition of her outstanding leadership, humanitarian service, peace advocacy and valuable contributions to society.

The distinguished honour was formally conferred on her during the 139th Posthumous Birthday, Pardon and Awards Celebration of the Rt. Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey, held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the Civil Service Auditorium, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The ceremony attracted dignitaries from government, academia, traditional institutions, civil society and the wider community.

The event was organised by the Universal Negro Improvement Association–African Communities League (UNIA-ACL) and the Marcus Garvey Drillers Foundation School (MGDFS), in conjunction with the Marcus Garvey Institute International. The celebration honoured the enduring legacy of Marcus Mosiah Garvey, a renowned Pan-Africanist and Jamaica's first National Hero.

The award committee recognised Princess Dr. Ibokette for her commitment to leadership, peace advocacy, humanitarian service and community development. Her elevation to Honorary Fellow of the Marcus Garvey Institute International represents a significant acknowledgement of her contributions to humanity and her dedication to initiatives that positively impact vulnerable members of society.

 An emerging leader, peace advocate, Community Mobilizer, Politician,  humanitarian and woman of faith, Ambassador Dr. Princess Victoria Ibokette is the founder of the Princess Victoria Ibokette Foundation, through which she has supported vulnerable and less-privileged people in society. Her humanitarian activities have focused on providing assistance, restoring hope and promoting opportunities for people facing social and economic challenges.

In her remarks, Princess Dr. Ibokette expressed gratitude to the Marcus Garvey Institute International, Chicago, USA, the organisers and the award screening committee for finding her worthy of the distinguished recognition. She described the honour as both a privilege and a call to greater service, stressing that recognition should inspire beneficiaries to do more for humanity. She reaffirmed her commitment to peace advocacy, humanitarian service, women and youth empowerment, and continued support for vulnerable and less-privileged members of society through the Princess Victoria Ibokette Foundation.

The occasion featured prominent dignitaries, including Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, as Special Guest of Honour; Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State; the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof. Chele; and HRM Edidem Sylvanus Okon, JP, Paramount Ruler of Uyo and Royal Father of the Day.

The ceremony was held under the distinguished chairmanship of Mr. Mkposong Asuquo, MD/CEO of Sapphire and Carbuncle Energy Ltd. Associate Prof. Arnold Udoka served as Chairman of the Award Screening Sub-Committee, while Lady Mercy Udoh, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, and Imoh Ekpo, Secretary of the Central Planning Committee, were among officials who coordinated the programme.

The organisers emphasised the continuing relevance of Marcus Garvey's ideals of African unity, dignity, self-reliance, empowerment and development. The celebration was anchored on his historic motto, “Africa for the Africans, those at home and those abroad,” which continues to inspire conversations around African identity, advancement and solidarity.

The conferment of the Honorary Fellowship on Princess Dr.  Victoria Ibokette marked one of the major highlights of the celebration and further underscored the importance of recognising individuals committed to humanitarian service and community development. The honour is expected to encourage her continued efforts, through the Princess Victoria Ibokette Foundation and other platforms, to support vulnerable people, promote peace and contribute to the advancement of society.
