ABUJA — Philanthropist and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of MaryCrown Foundation, Ambassador Dr. Mary Olubunmi Gbadewole, has expanded her landmark birthday anniversary empowerment programme from 2,000 to 4,000 beneficiaries, extending the Foundation's humanitarian outreach to more vulnerable Nigerians across Abuja, Ibadan, Ilorin and Newark, New Jersey, United States.

The expanded intervention, which cuts across Abuja, Ibadan, Ilorin and , New Jersey, United States, further underscores the Foundation's commitment to extending hope, economic opportunities and social support to more vulnerable members of society.
The latest development comes barely days after the Foundation concluded the first phase of its multi-city birthday empowerment programme, an annual humanitarian initiative that has become synonymous with Mrs. Gbadewole's birthday anniversary. Conducted simultaneously across the four centres, the outreach attracted thousands of participants both physically and virtually, reflecting the Foundation's growing national and international humanitarian footprint.

The colourful grand finale, held at Staff Community School, Asokoro, Abuja, attracted an array of distinguished personalities, senior government officials, business leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, development partners, community stakeholders, women groups, youth organisations, family members and well-wishers. Guests commended the Foundation for consistently using birthday celebrations as a platform for restoring hope to vulnerable citizens rather than for personal festivities, describing the initiative as a model of compassionate leadership and impactful philanthropy.

With the expansion of the programme, hundreds of widows and indigent families who were initially unable to benefit from the first phase were accommodated, increasing the total number of beneficiaries to 4,000. The Foundation continued the distribution of direct cash grants through physical disbursements and electronic transfers facilitated by officials of Wema Bank and Taj Bank, while productive business tools, including wheelbarrows, market umbrellas and plastic chairs, were presented to beneficiaries to support income-generating activities. Hundreds of households also received bags of rice, cartons of instant noodles and other food items to cushion prevailing economic hardship.

Speaking with our correspondent, Ambassador Dr. Mary Olubunmi Gbadewole explained that the decision to expand the outreach was informed by the overwhelming humanitarian needs encountered during the exercise and her determination not to leave behind deserving widows and vulnerable people who had gathered in expectation of assistance.
"The responsibility has increased, and necessity has called on us," she said. "When we saw the number of widows and vulnerable people who came seeking help, we knew we could not stop at the initial figure. We decided to expand the programme because our mission is to restore hope, empower lives and give more people the opportunity to become economically independent. Every life matters, and every family deserves a chance to succeed."

She reiterated that the Foundation's interventions are designed to create sustainable livelihoods rather than temporary relief. She urged beneficiaries to regard the financial support and business equipment as seed capital capable of transforming their future, encouraging them to invest wisely, remain disciplined and build businesses that would not only support their families but also create employment opportunities within their communities.
Mrs.Gbadewole further reflected on the inspiration behind the empowerment initiative, revealing that the programme began in 2023 following what she described as a divine instruction from the Holy Spirit. Starting with only 100 beneficiaries, she noted, the annual outreach has continued to witness remarkable growth because of the numerous testimonies from previous recipients whose businesses have expanded and whose lives have been transformed through the Foundation's support.

"She also recounted how her own entrepreneurial journey began with an ice block business established with just ₦1,000, stressing that determination, prudent management and God's favour turned the modest venture into a multimillion-naira enterprise.

With the latest expansion to 4,000 beneficiaries, MaryCrown Foundation has further strengthened its reputation as one of Nigeria's leading humanitarian organisations. The birthday anniversary celebration has evolved beyond a personal milestone into a far-reaching platform for economic empowerment, social inclusion and community development, bringing renewed hope to thousands of vulnerable Nigerians and extending its humanitarian reach to the international community.
