Game Changer Conference 2027: Adek Bassey Urges Youths to Embrace Purpose, Skills, Resilience

ABUJA — The Director-General of the Today for Tomorrow Initiative and Today's  Skills Hub Academy, Mrs. Adek Bassey, has urged young Nigerians to embrace purpose-driven leadership, continuous skills development and resilience as critical ingredients for nation-building, declaring that Nigeria's future depends on a generation equipped with clarity of vision and the capacity to transform challenges into opportunities.

Bassey made the call while speaking with Newsway Africa at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, shortly after delivering a keynote address titled "The Power of Clarity" at the Game Changer Conference 2027. She said the conference was designed to inspire young Nigerians to discover their purpose, build leadership capacity and become active contributors to the country's socio-economic transformation.

She noted that through the Today for Tomorrow Foundation (TFTF) and Today's Hub Skills Academy, the organisation is advancing youth empowerment by equipping adolescents and young people with practical skills, leadership capacity and mentorship opportunities. According to her, the foundation is dedicated to promoting education, human rights, youth inclusion and informed decision-making, with the overarching goal of raising a generation of responsible leaders capable of driving sustainable national development.

According to her, clarity of purpose remains the defining attribute of exceptional leaders, noting that individuals who understand their "why" possess the resilience to navigate adversity, remain steadfast amid distractions and pursue solutions that create lasting value for society. She stressed that purpose provides the direction needed to make sound decisions and sustain excellence over time.

"Purpose is the compass that guides every meaningful journey," she said. "When young people discover who they are and why they exist, they become more resilient, more innovative and more committed to creating positive change in their communities and across the nation."

The Director-General observed that Nigeria is blessed with an energetic and resourceful youth population whose potential can only be fully realised through deliberate investments in education, vocational training, entrepreneurship and leadership development. She noted that acquiring relevant skills has become indispensable in an increasingly competitive and technology-driven global economy.

Bassey explained that the Today for Tomorrow Initiative and Today's Hub Skills Academy were established to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity by equipping young Nigerians with practical skills, entrepreneurial knowledge and leadership competencies that prepare them to become employers of labour, innovators and responsible nation-builders.

She challenged participants at the conference to reject mediocrity, cultivate integrity and pursue excellence with unwavering determination, maintaining that setbacks should be viewed as stepping stones rather than barriers to success. According to her, resilience remains one of the defining qualities of transformational leaders who leave enduring legacies.

The youth development advocate further called on government institutions, the private sector, development partners and civil society organisations to strengthen collaboration in expanding opportunities for young people through mentorship, capacity-building initiatives and enterprise development programmes. She said empowering young Nigerians with the right skills and values would significantly accelerate national productivity and inclusive economic growth.

Bassey emphasised that sustainable leadership is built not on titles or influence but on character, competence and a genuine commitment to service. She urged young Nigerians to align their ambitions with solutions that address societal challenges, insisting that leadership should always be measured by impact rather than personal recognition.

She concluded that national transformation begins with individuals who possess clarity of purpose and the courage to pursue it with discipline and consistency. "If our young people embrace purpose, develop relevant skills and remain resilient in the face of challenges, they will not only transform their own lives but also redefine Nigeria's future," she said.
