AHAPN Chairman Lauds ACPN, Harps on Professionalism, Ethics and Collaboration at 45th Annual Scientific Conference

ABUJA — The National Chairman of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN), Pharm. Elechi Oyim, FPSN, has commended the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) for its sustained commitment to advancing pharmacy practice, while urging pharmacists nationwide to uphold professionalism, ethical standards, and stronger collaboration in the delivery of quality healthcare services.

Oyim gave the commendation in a goodwill message presented at the 45th Annual International Scientific Conference of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), tagged UNITY 2026, in Abuja.

The AHAPN Chairman described the conference as a major platform for intellectual engagement, professional networking, policy dialogue, and the exchange of innovative ideas that continue to shape the future of pharmacy practice and healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

The high-level conference attracted top government officials, policymakers, and healthcare stakeholders, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro; Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services, Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji; and Niger State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Murtala Muhammad Bagana.

Speaking on the theme of the conference, “From Local Pharmacy Practice to Global Impact: Managing Complex Political Systems,” Oyim said the subject was timely and underscores the need for pharmacists to embrace leadership, strengthen advocacy, and actively contribute to healthcare policy development.

He noted that the evolving healthcare landscape requires pharmacists across all practice settings, including community, hospital, administrative, academic, industrial, and regulatory fields, to work collectively in addressing critical healthcare challenges.

According to him, stronger collaboration among pharmacy professionals is essential to advancing universal health coverage, ensuring medicine security, promoting patient-centred care, and supporting evidence-based decisions that improve health outcomes.

Oyim emphasized that professionalism and ethical conduct remain fundamental to maintaining public confidence in the pharmacy profession, urging pharmacists to consistently uphold integrity, competence, and excellence in their various roles.

“Together, we must continue to champion interprofessional collaboration, uphold the highest standards of ethics and professionalism, and advocate for policies that strengthen our healthcare system while advancing the pharmacy profession,” he said.

The AHAPN Chairman reaffirmed the association’s commitment to its enduring partnership with ACPN, stressing that unity and cooperation among pharmacists would continue to drive innovation, strengthen healthcare delivery, and expand the impact of the profession in Nigeria and beyond.

He commended the ACPN leadership for organizing another impactful scientific conference and for its dedication to continuous professional development, capacity building, and the advancement of community pharmacy practice.

Oyim expressed confidence that the discussions, presentations, and policy engagements at UNITY 2026 would produce meaningful resolutions capable of improving pharmaceutical care, strengthening health systems, and positioning Nigerian pharmacists for greater global relevance.

The 45th Annual International Scientific Conference of ACPN brought together pharmacists, government representatives, healthcare administrators, regulators, academics, researchers, and industry leaders to deliberate on emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping the future of pharmacy practice.
