2027: Progressive Women Empowerment Group Backs Tinubu's Re-election, Inaugurates State Coordinators
ABUJA — The Progressive Women Empowerment Group (PWEG) on Saturday formally declared its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, inaugurating its state coordinators during a colourful ceremony at the Women Development Centre, Abuja, where hundreds of women leaders, youth groups and supporters gathered to endorse the President's Renewed Hope Agenda.
The event, convened by the Founder and National Convener of the organisation, Ambassador Memunat Hassan Ahmed, attracted a mammoth crowd from across the country. Participants unanimously passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu's leadership, describing his economic reforms and governance initiatives as laying the foundation for long-term national renewal, economic stability and inclusive development.
Speaking at the inauguration, Ambassador Ahmed said the swearing-in of state coordinators marked the beginning of an extensive grassroots mobilisation campaign aimed at strengthening women's participation in governance while galvanising support for the continuity of the Tinubu administration beyond 2027. She noted that women remain the backbone of Nigeria's democratic process and must take the lead in promoting national unity, peace and responsible political participation.
According to her, the Progressive Women Empowerment Group was established to advance women's leadership, economic empowerment and political inclusion while supporting policies that improve the welfare of families and communities. She expressed confidence that President Tinubu's ongoing reforms would ultimately deliver sustainable economic growth, expanded opportunities for Nigerians and a stronger foundation for future generations.
Ambassador Ahmed urged the newly inaugurated coordinators to return to their respective states and immediately commence community-based mobilisation, voter education and stakeholder engagement. She charged them to build formidable grassroots structures capable of mobilising millions of women in support of the President's re-election, stressing that discipline, unity and effective grassroots organisation would determine the success of the movement.
She further encouraged women across the federation to remain active participants in the nation's democratic process by supporting policies that promote development, security, youth empowerment and economic prosperity, insisting that the Renewed Hope Agenda offers a pathway to a more stable and prosperous Nigeria.
The highlight of the event was the formal inauguration of coordinators representing the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, followed by a resounding endorsement of President Tinubu's second-term aspiration. Supporters waved banners, sang solidarity songs and pledged unwavering commitment to ensuring victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The ceremony ended with a renewed commitment by the Progressive Women Empowerment Group to deepen its nationwide grassroots presence through civic engagement, women-focused empowerment programmes, strategic advocacy and sustained political mobilisation. Participants expressed optimism that with greater women's participation and coordinated grassroots support, the Renewed Hope Agenda would continue to drive national development and strengthen Nigeria's democratic institutions.
