Dr. Igbinosa Ogbeide-Ihama Raises Alarm Over Alleged Irregular Issuance of NDC Nomination Forms

ABUJA – A House of Representatives aspirant for Oredo Federal Constituency on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Igbinosa Ogbeide-Ihama, has alleged irregularities in the issuance of the party's nomination forms, warning that any process conducted outside the party's constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act could expose the party to avoidable legal disputes.
In a statement titled "Irregular Issuance of NDC Nomination Forms in Oredo Federal Constituency," the NDC aspirant expressed concern over what he described as procedural breaches in the party's nomination process, urging the leadership of the party to uphold transparency, internal democracy and strict compliance with electoral laws.
Dr. Ogbeide-Ihama alleged that some aspirants within the party were issued nomination forms outside the established procedures prescribed by the party's constitution. According to him, the development raises significant legal and constitutional concerns capable of undermining the credibility of the party's candidate selection process if left unaddressed.
The Oredo Federal Constituency aspirant further claimed that, to the best of his knowledge, some of the affected aspirants had not publicly presented pictorial or video evidence of formally collecting their nomination forms. He argued that the absence of publicly verifiable evidence had further fueled concerns regarding the transparency and integrity of the nomination exercise.
According to Dr. Ogbeide-Ihama, there is a misconception in some quarters that the mere uploading of an aspirant's details to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal automatically validates the candidacy. He maintained that lawful nomination extends beyond administrative submission and must first satisfy all constitutional, statutory and internal party requirements governing the emergence of candidates.
He warned that any nomination allegedly made outside due process could become vulnerable to judicial challenge by an aggrieved aspirant or any other person with the requisite legal standing under the applicable electoral laws. Such disputes, he noted, could result in prolonged litigation capable of affecting the party's electoral prospects in Oredo Federal Constituency.
The leadership and strategic scholar called on the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress to ensure that all aspirants are treated fairly and equally, stressing that internal democracy remains the cornerstone of every credible political party. He urged the party to safeguard the integrity of its nomination process by adhering strictly to its constitution and all relevant electoral provisions.
Dr. Ogbeide-Ihama further cautioned that failure to follow due process could not only disenfranchise committed party members but also erode public confidence in the party and ultimately jeopardize the mandate of voters during the general election. He emphasized that political parties owe both their members and the electorate a duty to conduct their internal affairs in accordance with the law.
Reaffirming his commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, the NDC House of Representatives aspirant expressed confidence that the issues he raised would receive objective consideration by the party leadership. He maintained that strengthening internal democracy and institutional accountability remains essential to deepening Nigeria's democratic culture and ensuring credible electoral outcomes.
The development comes at a time when political parties across the country are intensifying preparations for forthcoming elections, with increasing attention being placed on transparent candidate selection processes, compliance with electoral regulations and the protection of the rights of party members throughout the nomination exercise.
