ABUJA - Barr. Ambassador Sheila Gbogidi has been named an emerging leader among Africa’s leading women at the Focus Africa Women Forum, a high-profile recognition ceremony held as part of the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Focus Africa Series at the Banquet Hall of Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.
Beneath the shimmering lights of the hall, where some of the continent’s finest voices in leadership, enterprise and social development converged, her recognition unfolded as a fitting tribute to a woman whose journey has become a quiet but powerful testament to service, resilience and transformational impact.
The event convened a distinguished gathering of policymakers, business leaders, development advocates and prominent personalities from across the continent to celebrate women whose contributions are shaping institutions, expanding opportunities and advancing Africa’s development agenda.
As her name was announced, Barr. Gbogidi rose with quiet grace and made her way to the stage, her gentle steps drawing the admiration of guests seated in the glittering hall. The moment was greeted with warm applause, reflecting the esteem with which her leadership journey and developmental interventions are regarded.
Barr. Gbogidi, the Chief Executive Officer of Mariel Job Solution, was recognised for her outstanding contributions to employment generation, workforce development, sustainable livelihood empowerment and the creation of pathways for women and young people to participate more meaningfully in the economy.
The President of Focus Africa Series, Amb. Succex Ibeh, described the recognition as a product of merit, verifiable performance and measurable impact. He commended Barr. Gbogidi’s leadership journey, noting that her interventions have continued to create opportunities, inspire enterprise and strengthen hope among individuals and communities.
The ceremony also featured other notable honourees, including Dr. Ezinne Chinyere Benjamin Kalu, wife of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Mrs. Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, wife of the Chief of Army Staff.
In her remarks, Barr. Gbogidi drew attention to the structural challenges confronting women across Africa, particularly limited access to leadership platforms, gender bias and inadequate mentorship.
She maintained that the central challenge is not a shortage of ability among African women, but the absence of access to opportunities, networks, mentorship and enabling environments that allow their capacities to flourish.
“One of the biggest challenges facing African women is access. It is not because women lack ability; rather, many women are denied access to leadership opportunities, mentorship and enabling platforms,” she said.
The evening was further enriched by her gracious remarks, delivered with poise, warmth and conviction. In her interaction with eminent guests and participants, Barr. Gbogidi spoke with a blend of humility and clarity, underscoring the importance of intentional mentorship, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship support and inclusive policies that would position more women for leadership and sustainable economic participation.
She further emphasised the importance of women in nation-building, noting that the strength of a nation is deeply connected to the wellbeing of its families and communities.
“When families thrive, communities prosper; and when communities prosper, nations work,” she stated.
She urged women across Africa to remain steadfast in advocacy, intentional in mentoring younger generations and committed to giving back through service, empowerment and purpose-driven leadership.
Barr. Sheila Gbogidi’s recognition at the Focus Africa Series 10th Anniversary Celebration reflects a growing continental acknowledgement of her vision, compassion and commitment to human development. As a researcher, philanthropist, entrepreneur and advocate for social inclusion, she continues to represent a new generation of African women whose leadership is defined not merely by position, but by the lives they transform and the opportunities they create.
