ABUJA — In an extraordinary display of compassion, visionary leadership and purposeful philanthropy, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Mary Crown Foundation, Ambassador Dr. Mary Olubunmi Gbadewole commemorated her birthday anniversary on Friday, June 26, 2026, by empowering more than 5,000 vulnerable Nigerians through a multi-city humanitarian outreach spanning Abuja, Ibadan, Ilorin and New Jersey, United States.
The large-scale intervention, which has become an annual signature of the Foundation, reflected Dr. Gbadewole's unwavering commitment to poverty alleviation, entrepreneurship development and inclusive social welfare. The empowerment programme was conducted simultaneously across the four cities, with thousands participating both physically and virtually, underscoring the Foundation's growing humanitarian influence beyond Nigeria's shores.
The colourful grand finale was held at Staff Community School, Asokoro, Abuja, where compassion, celebration and service were seamlessly woven together. The event attracted an array of distinguished personalities, government officials, business leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, development partners, community stakeholders, family members and well-wishers who gathered to honour the humanitarian icon and celebrate another year of impactful service to humanity.
Beneficiaries received direct financial support through physical cash disbursements and electronic bank transfers, with officials of Wema Bank and Taj Bank on ground to facilitate seamless transactions. Others received productive business tools, including
wheelbarrows, large market umbrellas and plastic chairs, while hundreds of families benefited from food palliatives comprising bags of rice and cartons of instant noodles to cushion the prevailing economic challenges. The 2026 empowerment exercise represents another significant milestone in the Foundation's expanding humanitarian legacy. Unlike the previous anniversary, during which Dr. Gbadewole donated a fully constructed Primary Health Care Centre to the Kobi Community in Asokoro, this year's intervention focused on strengthening entrepreneurship and economic resilience by equipping beneficiaries with financial resources and business tools capable of generating sustainable income.
Addressing participants, Ambassador Dr. Mary Olubunmi Gbadewole urged beneficiaries to regard the support not as mere charity but as investment capital designed to transform their future. She challenged them to deploy the resources judiciously in establishing viable enterprises capable of lifting their families out of poverty and contributing meaningfully to national economic growth.
Sharing her personal testimony, the celebrated humanitarian recounted how her entrepreneurial journey began with an ice block business established with just ₦1,000. Through determination, discipline, unwavering faith and divine favour, she said the modest venture blossomed into a multimillion-naira enterprise, stressing that greatness is often born from humble beginnings when opportunities are maximised with diligence.
Reflecting on the origin of the empowerment programme, Dr. Gbadewole disclosed that the initiative was inaugurated in 2023 following what she described as a divine instruction from the Holy Spirit. Beginning with only 100 beneficiaries, she noted, the programme has expanded remarkably over the years owing to overwhelming testimonies from previous recipients whose businesses and livelihoods have been transformed through the Foundation's interventions.
In one of the most poignant moments of her address, she revealed that identifying beneficiaries often goes beyond formal registration. According to her, she personally drives through different parts of the Federal Capital Territory, stopping beneath bridges and in underserved communities to invite vulnerable individuals to participate in the programme. Although many initially doubted her intentions, she said those encounters have now produced countless success stories, demonstrating that compassion remains one of society's most powerful instruments for restoring dignity and hope.
Speaking on behalf of the family, her husband, Dr. Amos Kayode Gbadewole, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Crown Luxury Properties, paid glowing tribute to his wife, describing generosity as an inseparable part of her identity. He remarked that selfless giving defines her daily life, adding that even in moments of personal sacrifice, she remains committed to extending a helping hand to those in need. He commended her exceptional humanitarian vision and prayed for greater divine grace and strength as she continues to impact lives across Nigeria and beyond.
The celebration featured goodwill messages from eminent personalities, prayers, cultural performances and moving testimonies from beneficiaries whose businesses and living conditions have improved through previous editions of the empowerment programme. Many acknowledged the Foundation as a beacon of hope, affirming that the intervention has enabled them to regain economic independence and restore dignity to their families.
As the ceremony concluded amid resounding applause and heartfelt appreciation, the 2026 birthday anniversary empowerment once again affirmed the Mary Crown Foundation's position as a leading force in humanitarian service and sustainable community development. Beyond the festivities, the event stood as a compelling testament to the transformative power of purposeful leadership, compassionate giving and strategic philanthropy in advancing national development and uplifting the most vulnerable members of society.
