Rivers Governorship: Fafaa Dan-Princewill Joins Race Under NDC, Seeks to Restore Order in Rivers Politics
By Genesis ogiri
Abuja — In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, Fafaa Dan-Princewill has formally entered the Rivers State governorship race under the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), signaling what he describes as a mission to restore coherence, accountability, and purposeful governance in the state’s political architecture.
Speaking with newsmen at the NDC national secretariat in Abuja shortly after obtaining his nomination and expression of interest form, Dan-Princewill painted a sobering picture of the current political environment, describing it as structurally weakened and increasingly disconnected from the aspirations of the people.
He decried what he termed confusion and dysfunction in the political system, noting that the prevailing situation has weakened public service delivery and eroded public trust in leadership.
“Our politics is broken, our service is faulty. There is confusion in our politics,” he said. “I come to salvage the situation.”
The governorship aspirant maintained that his decision to contest was driven by a strong sense of responsibility to reposition governance in Rivers State and ensure that leadership becomes more structured, responsive, and people-oriented.
According to him, Rivers State, despite its strategic importance and vast economic resources, has not achieved its full developmental potential due to leadership gaps and institutional inefficiencies that require urgent attention.
Dan-Princewill further stated that his political vision is anchored on rebuilding governance systems, strengthening public institutions, and restoring citizens’ confidence in democratic leadership. He promised to prioritize policies that will enhance transparency, accountability, and equitable development across all sectors of the state.
He also emphasized the need for political stability, warning that continued divisions and governance inconsistencies could further hinder development and deepen socio-economic challenges facing residents.
The aspirant noted that his entry into the governorship race is not about personal ambition but about what he described as a rescue mission aimed at correcting systemic failures and repositioning Rivers State for sustainable growth.
Dan-Princewill called on party members, political stakeholders, youths, and women groups across the state to rally behind his aspiration, stressing that meaningful transformation can only be achieved through collective effort and shared responsibility.
He further assured that, if elected, his administration would focus on infrastructure development, job creation, institutional reforms, and policies designed to improve the living standards of citizens across Rivers State.
