Ovia Federal Constituency: Comrade Omoregie Picks NDC Form, Vows to Reconnect Democracy with the Grassroots

Comrade Edwin Omoregie, a renowned community mobilizer, philanthropist, and Chief Executive Officer of the Edwin Omoregie Foundation, has officially picked the nomination and expression of interest forms under the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Ovia Federal Constituency of Edo State in the 2027 general elections.

Widely respected for his grassroots interventions, humanitarian outreach, and community development initiatives across Edo State, Omoregie’s entrance into the race is already generating political momentum, with stakeholders describing his aspiration as a people-driven movement aimed at restoring responsive governance, participatory democracy, and effective representation to neglected communities within Ovia Federal Constituency.

Speaking at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) national office in Abuja shortly after obtaining the nomination forms, Comrade Omoregie stated that his political aspiration is rooted in the urgent need to reconnect governance with ordinary citizens and ensure that the dividends of democracy become visible within rural and underserved communities.

“I am contesting to bring the dividends of democracy closer to my people. Leadership must connect with the grassroots because the people are the true owners of the mandate,” he declared.

The NDC aspirant stressed that elected representatives must remain accessible, visible, and accountable to the citizens who entrusted them with political authority, insisting that representation loses its essence when leaders become disconnected from the communities they serve.

“You must make yourself accessible because you hold the people’s mandate. Effective representation means staying close to the people and understanding their daily realities,” he stated.

Comrade Omoregie lamented what he described as the prolonged abandonment of rural communities and grassroots populations within Ovia Federal Constituency, noting that many communities have remained politically marginalized and disconnected from developmental opportunities.

“My people at the grassroots have been abandoned for too long. I want to fill the missing link and bridge the gap between the people and governance,” he said.

He further emphasized that his legislative agenda would prioritize community-driven development, strategic constituency projects, infrastructural expansion, youth empowerment, and constant engagement with constituents across the federal constituency.

“Representation is not about occupying office; it is about bringing constituency projects to the people, being visible to them, and ensuring they are not neglected after elections,” he added.

Political analysts say the emergence of Comrade Edwin Omoregie under the banner of the National Democratic Congress further reinforces the growing appeal of the NDC among grassroots political actors, reform advocates, and community-based mobilizers seeking a more inclusive and participatory democratic culture.

Observers within Ovia Federal Constituency believe his emphasis on accessibility, grassroots inclusion, and people-centered governance may resonate strongly with voters yearning for responsive leadership and tangible developmental impact ahead of the 2027 polls.
