ABUJA — Aspirant for the Onitsha North/South Federal Constituency seat under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Hilary Agbanuonwu, has assured constituents of purposeful and accountable representation, declaring that he would not disappoint the people if elected into the House of Representatives in 2027.

Hon. Agbanuonwu made the declaration while speaking with Newsway Reporters shortly after the successful screening exercise for National Assembly aspirants conducted by the NDC at Bon Hotel, Abuja.

The federal constituency hopeful stated that his political aspiration is driven by a people-centred vision aimed at deepening grassroots participation, empowering local communities, and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach ordinary citizens across Onitsha North and South.

“I will not disappoint my people if given the opportunity to serve. My vision is centred on the people. Grassroots empowerment and engagement remain my top priority because leadership must directly impact the lives of the people,” he said.

He further stressed the need for responsive representation capable of amplifying the visibility and interests of the constituency at the national level, noting that the people deserve a representative who understands their struggles and aspirations.

According to him, legislative representation should go beyond political symbolism and evolve into a platform for practical development, youth inclusion, economic opportunities, and sustained community advancement.

Hon. Agbanuonwu also commended the growing acceptance of the Nigeria Democratic Congress across the country, describing the NDC as an emerging political force steadily redefining the nation’s democratic landscape ahead

"He used the occasion to commend the growing political momentum of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, describing the NDC as “the uprising political movement” rapidly gaining national acceptance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He noted that the ideological foundation of the party, which prioritizes democratic inclusion, institutional reforms, grassroots development, and people-driven governance, aligns with his personal political philosophy and leadership convictions.

“The NDC is rapidly gaining momentum because Nigerians are yearning for a new political direction founded on credibility, inclusion, and people-driven governance. I strongly identify with the ideology and vision of the party,” he added.

Political stakeholders and observers following developments within the constituency believe his emergence has added renewed energy to the political atmosphere in Onitsha North/South, especially among grassroots mobilizers and young voters seeking a more accessible and development-oriented style of representation.

As the 2027 political permutations gradually gather momentum, analysts say the contest for the Onitsha North/South Federal Constituency may evolve into one of the closely watched legislative races in Anambra State.
