Ohafia/Arochukwu 2027: Barrister Orji Ama Onu Picks NDC Reps Form, Unveils Legislative Blueprint
By Genesis Ogiri
ABUJA — Barrister Orji Ama Onu, aspirant for the House of Representatives seat for Ohafia/Arochukwu Federal Constituency under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has declared that the people of the constituency are determined to embrace a new political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections due to what he described as years of inaccessible and disconnected representation.
Speaking with Newsway Reporters at Bon Hotel, Abuja, during the ongoing National Assembly screening exercise yesterday, the legal practitioner and grassroots mobilizer said the current representation in the constituency has failed to sustain meaningful engagement with the people, thereby creating widespread dissatisfaction across communities.
“What we have in the constituency today is arbitration without effective representation,” Barrister Orji Ama Onu stated. “The current member is not accessible and appears disconnected from the realities and daily struggles of the people. My people desire change, and that is why I am here.”
The aspirant, who recently picked his nomination and expression of interest form, said his political aspiration is driven by a longstanding passion for leadership and public service dating back to his university days.
“Apart from being a lawyer, I have been involved in leadership right from my university days. I believe this is the right time for me to continue that journey of service and contribute meaningfully to the development of our constituency,” he added.
Barrister Orji Ama Onu further unveiled a comprehensive legislative agenda focused on agriculture, healthcare, electricity, education, and youth empowerment, insisting that the constituency deserves practical representation capable of attracting visible democratic dividends.
According to him, mechanized farming would occupy a strategic position in his empowerment blueprint if elected into the Green Chamber.
“If elected, I will support our people through mechanized agriculture and sponsor bills that will directly improve the welfare of rural dwellers and local farmers,” he said.
On healthcare delivery, the NDC aspirant promised to facilitate the establishment and revitalization of primary healthcare centers across communities within the constituency, alongside rapid-response ambulance services to strengthen emergency medical care.
“Primary healthcare must be available in every community. We will ensure that rural communities are not abandoned when it comes to access to healthcare and emergency response,” he emphasized.
Addressing the persistent electricity challenge confronting many parts of Ohafia and Arochukwu, Barrister Orji Ama Onu assured constituents that he would aggressively pursue federal interventions and strategic partnerships aimed at restoring stable electricity supply.
“Our people have suffered years of inadequate power supply. I will make every possible effort to ensure our communities are no longer left in darkness,” he declared.
The House of Representatives hopeful also expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of public schools within the constituency, describing education as the most effective instrument for combating poverty, unemployment, and youth restiveness.
“I am deeply passionate about education because many of our schools are now in deplorable condition. We must invest in our children and create opportunities for academically gifted students,” he noted.
As part of his education reform agenda, Barrister Orji Ama Onu pledged to sponsor WAEC registration fees for outstanding students, provide scholarship opportunities to universities, and establish educational support initiatives aimed at nurturing exceptional talents.
According to him, such interventions would significantly reduce the rising involvement of youths in internet fraud and other social vices.
“When young people are properly educated and empowered, they become productive contributors to society. Supporting gifted students and expanding educational opportunities will help reduce the growing ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ culture among frustrated youths,” he said.
Political analysts believe his emergence may significantly alter the political equation within Ohafia/Arochukwu Federal Constituency, particularly among young voters and grassroots communities seeking accessible, development-driven representation ahead of 2027.
