2027 Elections: Esirigwe OKey Vows To Restore Grassroots Voice in Enugu North Senate Bid

By Genesis Ogiri

ABUJA — Prominent oil and gas entrepreneur and senatorial aspirant for Enugu North Senatorial District under the platform of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), Dr. Okey Ezirigwe, has declared that the persistent failure of Nigeria’s political and governance system compelled him to join the race for the Senate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Ezirigwe made the declaration while speaking with journalists during the ongoing National Assembly screening exercise of the party held at the prestigious BON Hotel Abuja, where aspirants across the federation gathered for strategic consultations and screening engagements.

The Enugu North senatorial hopeful, whose professional background spans the oil and gas sector, stated that his transition into active politics was inspired by the urgent need for competent leadership capable of bridging the widening gap between governance and the realities confronting ordinary Nigerians.

According to him, years of institutional inefficiency, economic hardship, weak representation, and policy failures have continued to deepen public frustration, particularly among grassroots communities yearning for responsive leadership and sustainable development.

“The failure of the system informed my decision to join the race,” Dr. Ezirigwe stated, stressing that Nigeria requires visionary leaders with practical experience, strategic thinking, and a people-centered governance philosophy.

The oil and gas executive noted that his private sector exposure has equipped him with valuable administrative insight, economic management capacity, and strategic problem-solving experience needed to contribute meaningfully to legislative governance at the national level.

He maintained that representation in the Senate must go beyond political symbolism and evolve into a platform for economic inclusion, infrastructural renewal, policy innovation, and legislative advocacy capable of transforming lives at the grassroots.

“My vision is for the voice of my people to be heard at the national level, to bring better legislative dividends of democracy to the grassroots,” he declared while addressing newsmen shortly after his screening session.

Dr. Ezirigwe further emphasized that the people of Enugu North Senatorial District deserve a representative who understands both the economic realities of the private sector and the developmental expectations of rural communities.

He pledged to champion policies that would encourage youth empowerment, local enterprise development, investment expansion, educational advancement, energy sector reforms, and improved social welfare initiatives for constituents across the district.

The senatorial aspirant also stressed the need for stronger legislative oversight, institutional accountability, and strategic federal collaboration capable of attracting infrastructural projects and sustainable economic opportunities to Enugu North Senatorial District.

Speaking extensively on the ideological direction of the NDC, Dr. Ezirigwe described the coalition as a rising political movement strategically positioned to restore the failures of the existing system and rebuild public confidence in democratic governance.

According to him, the party has continued to gain national momentum because of its reform-oriented philosophy, grassroots acceptance, and commitment to issue-based politics driven by accountability, inclusiveness, and national development.

He described the NDC as a platform bringing together professionals, technocrats, youth leaders, entrepreneurs, policy advocates, and grassroots mobilizers determined to redefine Nigeria’s political culture ahead of the 2027 electoral process.

“NDC will bring fresh air to the people,” he stated emphatically, while expressing confidence that Nigerians are increasingly embracing alternative political platforms capable of delivering credible governance, institutional renewal, and responsive leadership.

Political observers at the screening venue noted that Dr. Ezirigwe’s emergence reflects the growing entrance of private sector professionals and technocrats into Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly among individuals advocating policy-driven leadership and governance reforms.

Stakeholders also described his message as consistent with the rising national demand for accountable representation, economic revitalization, and leadership anchored on competence rather than conventional political rhetoric.

Analysts believe the involvement of accomplished professionals from sectors such as oil and gas could significantly reshape the quality of legislative conversations surrounding economic diversification, energy reforms, industrial growth, and national productivity.

The oil and gas entrepreneur assured supporters that transparency, accessibility, people-oriented representation, and effective legislative engagement would remain central pillars of his political philosophy if elected into the Senate in 2027.

As political alignments ahead of the next general elections continue to intensify, analysts believe the emergence of Dr. Okey Ezirigwe within the NDC structure signals a broader push toward technocratic leadership, democratic renewal, and grassroots-focused governance in Enugu State.
