2027: Barrister Oti Benjamin Chidiebere Picks NDC Reps Form, Promises Effective Representation
By Genesis ogiri
Chief Barrister Oti Benjamin Chidiebere has officially picked the nomination form under the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to contest for the House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 general elections. In what political observers have described as a bold and timely intervention into the future of Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency, the frontline aspirant said his decision to join the race was inspired by the urgent need to address years of underrepresentation, infrastructural neglect, and socioeconomic hardship confronting the people of the constituency.
According to him, Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani remains one of the most underdeveloped and economically challenged federal constituencies despite the enormous human and natural resources within the area.
“My people are underrepresented and abandoned. The dividends of democracy are not getting down to the grassroots. Our people deserve better leadership, effective representation, and accountable governance,” he stated.
“Let the resources and democratic benefits meant for my people reach them at the grassroots. I am not driven by personal interest; my priority is to ensure the people of Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani enjoy effective representation, inclusive development, and the true dividends of democracy,” he stated.
Chief Barrister Oti Benjamin lamented what he described as the diversion of constituency development allocations into private pockets, insisting that public resources meant for the welfare of the people must no longer be converted for personal gain.
“Federal allocations meant for constituency development are being converted to private use while the people continue to suffer. I cannot continue to watch this happen again. That is why I have decided to get involved politically to bring leadership succour to my people,” he declared.
Popularly known in many communities as “The Canopy” due to his longstanding humanitarian interventions and support system for vulnerable persons, the NDC aspirant said his passion for service has always revolved around providing solutions and shelter for the people.
“I provide shelter for people; I am a solution provider. That is why many people call me Canopy. Leadership is about protecting the people, empowering them, and making them visible in national development,” he added.
Unveiling his vision for the constituency, Chief Barrister Oti promised to champion people-oriented legislation, attract meaningful federal presence, strengthen infrastructure development, and ensure transparency and accountability in leadership if elected.
“My vision is to make my people visible again through quality representation, effective leadership, and accountability. The era where our people remain unheard and forgotten must come to an end,” he affirmed.
Political analysts monitoring the unfolding dynamics within the constituency argue that the aspirant possesses the political capital, social reach, and mobilization strength capable of altering the existing power equation ahead of the forthcoming electoral cycle. According to them, his growing popularity among youths, women, traditional stakeholders, and professionals has positioned him as one of the most formidable figures within the constituency’s contemporary political landscape.
According to findings gathered across several wards within the constituency, there is increasing optimism that his entrance into the political arena could usher in a new era of strategic empowerment, infrastructural advancement, youth inclusion, and legislative visibility for the federal constituency.
Supporters further argue that beyond his political popularity, his leadership disposition reflects courage, administrative foresight, and the capacity to galvanize collective action toward sustainable development. Many believe his growing acceptance is a direct response to years of perceived disconnect between the people and those entrusted with the mandate of representation.
In a further wave of political reactions, stakeholders across Igbo-Etiti and Uzo-Uwani have continued to describe him as a rising political force with strong grassroots appeal and unusual acceptance among the people.
According to a stakeholder from Uzo-Uwani, the aspirant’s popularity stems from long-standing community engagement and humanitarian outreach.
“He is not a seasonal politician. The people know him, trust him, and have consistently called for his emergence because they believe he understands their struggles,” the stakeholder said.
Another observer from Igbo-Etiti described him as a “bridge-builder and consensus leader” whose political philosophy aligns with the growing demand for participatory governance and people-centered leadership.
Across several communities, supporters increasingly view his emergence as a symbol of renewed hope and political awakening, arguing that his leadership style reflects accessibility, compassion, and commitment to development.
As consultations and political realignments continue to intensify ahead of the next electoral season, analysts maintain that the unfolding momentum around the aspirant may significantly influence the political calculations within Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani, especially among voters seeking a departure from conventional politics toward a more people-centered leadership structure.
For many residents across the constituency, the emerging political movement surrounding his personality is more than an ordinary ambition; it is gradually evolving into a symbol of renewed hope, grassroots solidarity, and the collective desire for a leadership model anchored on accessibility, competence, and genuine service to the people.
