In a moment marked by academic excellence and national pride, an officer of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Abubakar Saddiq, has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Policy and Strategic Studies at a convocation ceremony held today at the permanent site of the University of Abuja.
The colourful ceremony, attended by dignitaries, scholars, and members of the elite academic community, witnessed Dr. Saddiq emerge as a shining example of dedication and intellectual pursuit. Amid the gathering, the searchlight of knowledge beamed brightly on the accomplished officer as he joined other graduates in celebrating academic milestones.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the conferment, Dr. Saddiq expressed deep gratitude and fulfillment, describing the achievement as a long-awaited dream come true.
“This is a moment of great joy for me. It has been a journey of resilience and commitment. I am grateful to God and everyone who supported me through this process,” he said.
He further pledged to deploy the knowledge and expertise gained toward the advancement of his organization, the Nigeria Police Force, and the broader development of Nigeria.
Dr. Saddiq also commended the University of Abuja for its academic standards and institutional performance, rating the university highly.
“I will rate the university 9 out of 10. They are doing great in terms of academic delivery, infrastructure, and capacity building,” he added.
The convocation ceremony once again underscores the growing role of higher education in shaping leaders across sectors, reinforcing the importance of strategic knowledge in national development.
Beyond the celebrations, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, painted a broader picture of an institution undergoing rapid transformation following a period of leadership instability.
Describing the recent past as turbulent, he revealed that the university had, within a short period, witnessed the appointment of three acting Vice-Chancellors — a development that disrupted administrative continuity.
However, he affirmed that stability has now been restored.
“The storm is over,” he declared.
Professor Fawehinmi credited the turnaround to the strategic intervention of the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad, alongside the Governing Council, whose efforts he said have restored order and strengthened collaboration with academic unions.
He emphasized that the transition to Yakubu Gowon University signals a new era of stability, reform, and excellence, positioning the institution as a beacon of strategic knowledge and national development.
