National Leadership Awards Hold in Abuja, Honour Gov. Francis Nwifuru, Njodi, Dikko, Others

The National Leadership Awards (NLA) was recently hosted in Abuja, bringing together top government officials, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the country in celebration of outstanding public service and leadership excellence.

The award ceremony was held on 23rd April 2026 at the Nigeria Merit Award House, Maitama, Abuja, where eminent personalities from government and public service gathered to celebrate excellence in leadership, governance, and national development.

Organized by The People's Parliament Nigeria in collaboration with Leadership Awards Limited, the event is now in its 22nd year and continues to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to governance, state administration, and national development. The ceremony was convened under the leadership of Perry Opara, a respected political strategist who also serves as National Chairman of the National Forum for Political Advisers.

Organized by The People's Parliament Nigeria in collaboration with Leadership Awards Limited, the annual ceremony continues to spotlight individuals whose contributions have significantly impacted institutional growth, policy implementation, and public sector development.


Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Perry Opara, emphasized that the selection process was strictly merit-based, transparent, and guided by verifiable performance indicators. He noted that the awardees were carefully chosen based on their track records in public service, adding that the recognition was purely non-partisan and intended to encourage greater accountability in leadership.

He further charged the recipients to remain steadfast in their service to the nation and to continue advancing policies and programmes that positively impact citizens at all levels.

Among the distinguished honourees were several top government officials and public administrators drawn from across the federation.

  • Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru — Executive Governor, Ebonyi State
  • Ibrahim Njodi — Secretary to the State Government, Gombe State
  • Umar Musa Ikhilor — Secretary to the State Government, Edo State
  • Grace Umezurike — Secretary to the State Government, Ebonyi State
  • Sadiq Mamman Lagos — Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Kaduna State
  • Lydia H. Tsammani — Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Bauchi State
  • Kolapo Alimi — Commissioner for Information, Osun State
  • Fadila Muhammad Dikko — Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Katsina State
  • Roland Otaru — Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Edo State

The awardees were recognized for excellence across various sectors including governance, legal administration, grassroots development, public communication, and social welfare delivery.

The ceremony concluded with renewed calls for improved service delivery, institutional strengthening, and leadership accountability, as organizers reiterated that the awards are designed to inspire excellence and reward impactful contributions to national development.

Collectively, the honourees reflect a diverse representation of Nigeria’s leadership landscape, underscoring a shared commitment to effective governance and sustainable national progress.
