Dr. Usman Shehu Usman Bags National Leadership Award, Applauds Gov. Bala Mohammed’s Digital Transformation Drive
The Commissioner for Information and Communication in Bauchi State, Dr. Usman Shehu Usman, has been honoured with a prestigious National Leadership Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to governance, media relations, and digital communication reforms.
The award ceremony, held on April 23, 2026, at the Nigeria Merit Award House in Maitama, Abuja, attracted a distinguished gathering of stakeholders, policymakers, media practitioners, and dignitaries from across the country who came to witness the momentous occasion.
Organized by The People's Parliament Nigeria in collaboration with Leadership Awards Limited, the event is now in its 22nd year and continues to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to governance, state administration, and national development. The ceremony was convened under the leadership of Perry Opara, a respected political strategist who also serves as National Chairman of the National Forum for Political Advisers.
Amidst the esteemed audience, the spotlight beamed brightly on Dr. Usman as he received the award, symbolizing national acknowledgment of his dedication to transparency, effective communication, and public service excellence in Bauchi State.
The convener of the award, Ambassador Perry Opera, while speaking at the event, lauded Dr. Usman’s leadership trajectory, describing him as a model of consistency, professionalism, and innovation in public service. He urged other public office holders and emerging leaders to take valuable lessons from his exemplary service delivery and communication-driven governance style
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the ceremony, Dr. Usman lauded the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for providing the enabling environment that brought him to prominence. He attributed much of his success to the governor’s visionary leadership and commitment to inclusive governance.
Dr. Usman further highlighted several digital transformation initiatives championed by the governor since assuming office. According to him, the administration has prioritized the modernization of government communication systems through the digitization of information dissemination channels, ensuring faster and more transparent engagement with citizens.
He noted that the state government has introduced e-governance platforms that allow improved public access to services, strengthened the online presence of ministries, and enabled real-time dissemination of policies and programmes through digital media platforms. He also emphasized the upgrading of ICT infrastructure across government institutions to enhance administrative efficiency.
In addition, he pointed out that Bauchi State now operates radio stations across various local government areas equipped with modern digital transmitters, significantly improving broadcast quality, reach, and timely information delivery to grassroots communities.
He further stressed that the administration has maintained fairness and professionalism in the management of information and communication, noting that no journalist has been arrested or harassed for criticism under the current government—a reflection of its commitment to press freedom and democratic values.
Dr. Usman reaffirmed his commitment to using the award as a motivation to do more for the state, pledging to deepen transparency, strengthen public communication systems, and sustain innovation in the information sector.
The event concluded with commendations from stakeholders who described Dr. Usman as a dynamic and forward-thinking public servant whose efforts have significantly enhanced the communication landscape and public engagement framework of Bauchi State.
