QS Onya Benjamin Tasks Quantity Surveyors on Self-Development, Professional Progress

Abuja — Onya  Benjamin Chinedu, Project Director of Jigatech Engineering Service Limited, has called on quantity surveyors across Nigeria to embrace self-development and continuous professional progress as a necessary response to the changing demands of the construction and infrastructure sector.

He made the call while speaking at the QS Assembly and Induction of Newly Registered Quantity Surveyors, themed “Upskilling Quantity Surveyors’ Efficiency in Financial Management of Building, Engineering, and Infrastructure Developments.”

The event took place at the National Centre for Women Development on 31 March 2026 and attracted professionals, regulators, stakeholders, and newly inducted quantity surveyors from different parts of the country.

Speaking with newsmen at the general assembly, Onya Benjamin Chinedu emphasized that the profession must continue to adapt to emerging realities in project delivery, cost control, and infrastructure financing. He noted that quantity surveyors who proactively upgrade their skills and embrace innovative approaches would be better positioned to meet the demands of modern building, engineering, and infrastructure projects while contributing effectively to national development.

According to him, “Keep advancing yourself and make progress.”

He stated that continuous learning remains essential for professionals who seek relevance in an environment where technical standards and financial systems are constantly evolving.

The Project Director of Jigatech Engineering Service Limited noted that self-improvement will enable quantity surveyors to contribute more effectively to national development through accurate cost management and transparent project execution.

He added that professional excellence must be supported by discipline, ethical responsibility, and readiness to adopt innovative methods in handling building and engineering projects.

The annual assembly also provided a platform for strategic engagement on strengthening quantity surveying practice in Nigeria, while reaffirming the commitment of practitioners to institutional growth, professional accountability, and service delivery
