The Governing Council of Castle Park University in the United States has elevated Dr. Chinedu Ogwus to the rank of Professor of Energy Policy and Management.

The promotion, according to the University, recognises Professor Ogwus’ sustained academic excellence and far-reaching contributions to energy governance, sustainable development and policy innovation at national and international levels.

In a statement, the President of Castle Park University, Professor Hart Jones, described the elevation as a strategic endorsement of the institution’s mission to advance world-class, socially relevant scholarship.

Professor Jones said Professor Ogwus exemplifies the calibre of scholars whose research goes beyond theory to actively influence energy policy, industrial practice and sustainable development outcomes.

He noted that Professor Ogwus also brings to the University extensive international professional recognitions, including Chartered and Registered engineering and management credentials in the United Kingdom and the United States, which further enhance the institution’s global academic standing.

Also speaking, the Head of Academic Affairs,John Stone, explained that the promotion followed a rigorous, multi-level assessment of Professor Ogwus’ scholarly output, professional achievements and policy impact.

Stone said his work on energy transition, environmental governance and sustainable leadership in the oil and gas sector aligns strongly with the University’s vision of research that delivers real-world impact.

Until his appointment, Professor Ogwus served as Regional Director, Africa, for Robotics and Autonomous Systems at the Society of Petroleum Engineers International, where he was noted for integrating technology, policy frameworks and sustainable practices across Africa’s energy landscape.

In his acceptance remarks, Professor Ogwus expressed gratitude to the University and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing inclusive and people-centred energy policies.

He said energy remains central to human progress, economic growth and environmental sustainability, stressing that knowledge must always be deployed in the service of humanity.

Professor Ogwus’ research has significantly influenced Africa’s energy sector, with studies on oil spill management in the Niger Delta, pipeline security, biogas utilisation in West Africa and the link between environmental security and political stability.

His elevation, the University noted, further reinforces Castle Park University’s position as a hub for transformative scholarship and global leadership in energy policy.
