Abuja, Nigeria — In a moment of distinguished academic and professional recognition, Joseph Obadiah Ortseguga has been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree by the College of Oil and Gas Exploration Technology, Nigeria, in acknowledgment of his exemplary service to national security and strategic asset protection.

The honorary conferment ceremony was held at the prestigious National Merit Award House, Maitama, Abuja, a venue synonymous with landmark national recognitions and high-profile professional events. The occasion attracted security leaders, institutional heads, policymakers, industry experts, and other distinguished guests.

The NFSS delegation’s presence further amplified the significance of the occasion, signaling that the honour bestowed on Ortseguga was representative of the wider service’s dedication, resilience, and operational excellence across the FCT–Kogi corridor. Their attendance reinforced the message that leadership within the NFSS is both a personal commitment and a collective endeavour, where achievements are celebrated as shared victories that elevate the
 profile of the entire organization.

Ortseguga, who serves as the Assistant Commander General, FCT–Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), has been widely commended for his operational leadership, intelligence coordination, and commitment to securing forested and high-risk corridors critical to national stability.

Presenting the award, officials of the College of Oil and Gas Exploration Technology described Ortseguga as a disciplined security professional whose service record reflects unwavering dedication to the protection of strategic assets, particularly within environments vulnerable to illegal exploitation, sabotage, and emerging security threats.

The College noted that the honorary doctorate was conferred in recognition of his contributions to strengthening security frameworks that support oil and gas exploration, infrastructure protection, and sustainable resource management, areas that remain vital to Nigeria’s economic and energy security.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the conferment, Ortseguga described the honour as deeply humbling and symbolic of collective service rather than personal achievement. He said the recognition reinforces his responsibility to lead with integrity and purpose.

“This honour is not just for me as an individual, but for the men and women of the Nigeria Forest Security Service who daily put their lives on the line to protect our communities and critical national assets. It is a call to greater service, professionalism, and ethical leadership,” he stated.

Ortseguga further emphasised the importance of collaboration between security institutions and academic bodies, noting that evolving threats around natural resources demand intelligence-driven operations and technology-based solutions.

“As security challenges continue to evolve, especially within forest environments and resource corridors, there is a growing need for synergy between security agencies, educational institutions, and modern technology. This recognition challenges me to do more in advancing capacity building and sustainable security practices,” he added.

The ceremony concluded on a celebratory note, with colleagues and stakeholders describing the honorary doctorate as a well-deserved recognition and a testament to the critical role of principled security leadership in safeguarding Nigeria’s strategic interests.
