DG Morgan Okocha Leads 17th International Forensic Summit on Border Security in Abuja

In a landmark gathering of international forensic and security professionals, the 17th International Summit for Forensic Practitioners General Assembly and Induction/Award Ceremony took center stage at the illustrious National Merit Award House, Metama, on Saturday, September 21. The summit, themed “Effect of Border Screening Using Forensic Tools in Modern Society,” positioned Nigeria as a continental leader in leveraging forensic science to safeguard national interests and drive sustainable development.

Dr. (Amb.) Morgan Okocha, Director-General of the Institute of Security and Forensic Studies Nigeria (SFSN), called on Nigerians while addressing the distinguished gathering of the participants to embrace the use of forensic science in investigations, emphasizing its crucial role in enhancing justice and national security. 

Dr. Morgan described the theme as pivotal to modern society, noting that border screening using advanced forensic tools is no longer optional but essential in tackling cross-border crime, human trafficking, smuggling, and other security challenges. He emphasized that forensic science is a strategic instrument for transparency, accountability, and societal stability, and that Nigeria must adopt modern investigative techniques to safeguard its borders and protect national interests.

Under Dr. Morgan’s visionary leadership, the SFSN has established training centers across all 36 states, making forensic education accessible, practical, and affordable. He welcomed professionals, students, and government personnel to harness these opportunities, stressing that the institute is committed to producing a new generation of forensic experts who can confront evolving security threats while contributing to national development.

Highlighting the institute’s broad mandate, Dr. Morgan reaffirmed that SFSN is at the forefront of training, research, and professional development in security, forensic studies, aviation, and oil & gas technology, positioning Nigeria as a continental hub for investigative excellence.

 “The integration of forensic tools into border security is not merely an academic exercise; it is central to national growth, industry protection, and the safety of our citizens,” Dr. Morgan said. “Through education, research, and professional training, we are building a secure, resilient, and prosperous Nigeria.”

With its international partnerships, state-of-the-art training programs, and strong emphasis on professional development, SFSN under Dr. Morgan’s stewardship continues to redefine Nigeria’s approach to security, forensic practice, and national development.

He emphasized that SFSN actively partners with government agencies to advance national security, ensuring that forensic expertise directly contributes to public safety and effective governance. “Through our seminars, workshops, and research programs, we continuously enhance investigative capacity across both private and public sectors,” Dr. Morgan stated.

 He further highlighted the institute’s commitment to professional development, membership induction, and post-retirement career support, noting that these initiatives provide members with the skills and opportunities to remain impactful throughout their careers and beyond.

As the driving force behind the summit, Dr. Morgan’s leadership has elevated the SFSN into a world-class institution. The summit also spotlighted the institute’s prestigious partnerships with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (USA), American Forensic Science (USA), Analytical Approach of Forensic Investigation (UK), Benue State University, Lincoln University College (Malaysia), and Highstone Global University (USA), underscoring its commitment to international standards and research excellence.

Dr. Morgan formally announced that the 18th International Summit for Forensic Practitioners General Assembly and Induction/Award Ceremony will take place on December 20, 2025, in Nigeria, reaffirming the country’s leadership role in the global forensic community.

Summing up the summit’s significance, Dr. Morgan stated:
