It was a moment of honor and celebration as Dr. Igwe Ijeoma Mirabel, the visionary founder of Miradon Counselling Home, Rivers State, was decorated with the prestigious African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Award at a grand ceremony held at the illustrious Novare Mall, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

The event, attended by esteemed dignitaries, thought leaders, diplomats, and representatives of civil society, showcased the immense strides Africans are making in line with the African Union Agenda 2063 – a blueprint and master plan for transforming Africa into a global powerhouse of the future.

Founded by Dr. Mirabel, Miradon Counselling Home has grown into one of the most recognized community-based organizations championing mental health awareness, psychosocial support, and youth rehabilitation in Nigeria.

Operating from Rivers State, the organization provides counselling services, therapy sessions, and rehabilitation programs for individuals battling depression, trauma, drug abuse, and social isolation. Beyond clinical care, Miradon has pioneered community outreach programs, school sensitization campaigns, and women’s empowerment projects—bridging the gap between vulnerable communities and the support systems they desperately need.

Over the years, Miradon Counselling Home has directly impacted hundreds of young people and families, equipping them with resilience, skills, and opportunities to live healthier and more purposeful lives. The home also collaborates with schools, religious institutions, and local authorities to address the stigma surrounding mental health, encouraging more open conversations and early interventions.
As Dr. Mirabel often says, “A healthy mind is the foundation of a thriving nation.” Miradon’s work is a testament to this philosophy, aligning perfectly with the African Union Agenda 2063 goals of inclusive development, youth empowerment, and social stability.

Speaking after receiving the award, an emotional Dr. Mirabel expressed gratitude to the African Union and the organizers for the honor.

“This recognition is not just about me—it is about the countless lives touched through Miradon Counselling Home and the tireless efforts of my team. Mental health and youth empowerment are critical to Africa’s growth, and I dedicate this award to every young person, every woman, and every community we serve. Together, we will continue to push for an Africa where no one is left behind,” she remarked.

She further emphasized the need to embrace the vision of the AU Agenda 2063, urging leaders and citizens alike to align with its aspirations.

“Agenda 2063 is not a distant dream—it is a call to action today. If we strengthen our communities, empower our youth, and build systems of care and resilience, Africa will truly become the continent of promise and prosperity that the world looks up to,” she added.

“The spotlight on Dr. Mirabel today shines on every woman working tirelessly to break barriers in her community. This award sends a clear message that grassroots service is as important as policy leadership.”

Another dignitary, Hon. Adewale Ayodeji, emphasized the broader importance of the AU initiative:

“Agenda 2063 is Africa’s collective roadmap. Recognizing champions like Dr. Mirabel ensures that we are not only talking about the future, but actively investing in it.”

The African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly is designed as a platform for celebrating individuals and institutions who embody the spirit of unity, resilience, and innovation in Africa. It reaffirms the AU’s commitment to achieving a peaceful, prosperous, and people-driven continent by 2063, guided by values of good governance, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.

As the spotlight shone on her, applause filled the hall for Dr. Mirabel’s resilience and unwavering dedication, underscoring the importance of supporting grassroots organizations that are bridging gaps between policy and practice.

With this honor, Dr. Igwe Ijeoma Mirabel joins the ranks of distinguished African leaders and change-makers tasked with carrying the Agenda 2063 message across communities—an assignment that requires passion, innovation, and relentless service to humanity.
