Abuja, Nigeria – June 2025
In a compelling demonstration of youth leadership and humanitarian commitment, Phyllis Nnemarabia Nwokeji, the 21-year-old UK Ambassador for Face of Joy International, has successfully led a major education-focused outreach initiative in rural communities of Gboko and Abuja, Nigeria.

Phyllis, a recent graduate of Sociology from the world-renowned London School of Economics (LSE), is emerging as a dynamic voice for global social change. Her latest humanitarian mission targeted underserved children in orphanage homes and rural schools—communities often overlooked in national development narratives.
The Back-to-School campaign, organized under the umbrella of Face of Joy International, provided essential educational materials to hundreds of children. The distributed kits included notebooks, mathematical sets, stationery, and water bottles—basic but crucial tools for enhancing learning experiences among underprivileged schoolchildren.

Speaking during the outreach, Phyllis emphasized the long-term impact of education on social development.

“Education is the major social changer for any society,” she said. “It is the bridge that connects children from marginalized communities to a future of opportunity, dignity, and empowerment. I want every child we met to know that their dreams are valid, and education is their right.”

The outreach was not merely transactional but transformational. Beyond distributing materials, Phyllis spent time engaging with the children—encouraging them to pursue education with resilience, sharing her own story as a young African woman thriving in international academia, and advocating for community-driven support systems to sustain their schooling journey.

The visit received heartfelt appreciation from school administrators, caregivers, and local leaders, many of whom noted the significance of international volunteers like Phyllis who return home to invest in grassroots development.

According to Mrs. Grace Ogbuehi, a coordinator at one of the orphanages visited in Gboko:

“This is more than charity. It’s mentorship, it’s love in action. Phyllis showed these children that they are not forgotten. She didn’t just give them books; she gave them hope.”

This mission aligns with Face of Joy International’s core vision—to uplift vulnerable populations through education, healthcare, and empowerment initiatives, while promoting sustainable development in underserved regions. The organization continues to serve as a platform for diaspora youth to connect meaningfully with their roots and serve humanity.

Phyllis’s role as UK Ambassador represents a growing movement of African youth in the diaspora leveraging their platforms for global impact. Her leadership, maturity, and compassion have earned her commendations both within and outside the NGO community, setting a standard for service and advocacy in the sector.

As she returns to the UK, Phyllis Nwokeji remains committed to her mission, already planning a follow-up intervention for later this year. Her work stands as a reminder that change begins with compassion—and that empowered youth can light the path to a more inclusive and educated world.

The humanitarian intervention led by Phyllis Nnemarabia Nwokeji under the auspices of Face of Joy International reflects a growing model of youth-driven diplomacy and international cooperation in addressing global development challenges. Her work affirms the critical role of education in fostering inclusive societies and achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities).

As a diaspora youth ambassador, Ms. Nwokeji exemplifies the potential of transnational partnerships in building resilient communities and promoting social equity. Her commitment to engaging vulnerable populations through locally relevant and culturally sensitive outreach demonstrates an understanding of humanitarian best practices and the importance of empowering communities from within.
In a world increasingly in need of compassionate leadership and strategic grassroots action, her initiative stands as a testament to the values of civic responsibility, global solidarity, and sustainable impact. It is a call to action for institutions, donors, and global citizens alike to invest in the next generation of change agents—because the future of international development lies in the hands of empowered youth with a heart for humanity.
