Businessman OKOLI Refutes Arrest Allegations, Vows to Defend Reputation

By Ola James

A prominent Nigerian businessman, Engr. Boniface Okoli, has firmly denied allegations linking him to fraudulent dealings with any government agency, describing recent claims of his alleged arrest as entirely false, defamatory, and a calculated attempt to damage his reputation.

In a statement issued over the weekend, Engr. Okoli described the circulating reports as “baseless, malicious, and entirely fabricated,” asserting that they are a deliberate attempt to damage his long-standing reputation.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos, he said:“My attention has been drawn to allegations and a charge sheet circulating on social media suggesting my involvement in an impersonation case. I am deeply disturbed by this unfounded and trumped-up accusation. What began as a mere rumour has spiralled out of control, prompting overwhelming calls, visits, and messages from concerned friends and family.”

He further revealed that he attempted to trace the source of the rumour without success, only to discover that the falsehood was being shared widely on Facebook and other social platforms.

During a recent visit to his home state, Okoli reassured supporters and associates of his commitment to uncovering the origin of the malicious claims and restoring his good name.

“While I have previously chosen to ignore such baseless attacks, the widespread concern from family, friends, and business partners has compelled me to publicly address these allegations,” he said.

The businessman emphasized that his career has been built on integrity and trust, adding that his “stellar reputation cannot and will not be tarnished by these unfounded charges.”

Okoli clarified that the matter in question, reportedly linked to the Nigeria Customs Service, was thoroughly investigated and found to lack any incriminating evidence against him. Since then, he said, he has neither been contacted nor summoned by any authority.

“What is baffling is how a matter that was investigated and resolved, confirming my innocence, has now resurfaced on social media as a purported criminal prosecution,” he noted.

He further stated that no official charges have been served on him and no court or investigative body has invited him for questioning since the conclusion of the initial inquiry.

However, Okoli declared he is fully prepared to appear in court if officially summoned, maintaining his readiness to defend his name and pursue justice through appropriate legal channels.

“I have instructed my legal counsel to explore all necessary legal remedies, including the possibility of a lawsuit against those behind this smear campaign,” he concluded.

Engr. Boniface Okoli has unequivocally dismissed the arrest allegations as a malicious attempt to smear his name. Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and the rule of law, he expressed readiness to appear before any competent authority to clear his name. He has also mandated his legal team to pursue appropriate legal actions to safeguard his reputation. As the matter continues to gain public attention, Okoli calls on the media and general public to verify facts and resist the spread of unsubstantiated claims.
