David Tochukwu Gabriel, a seasoned development and humanitarian professional and dedicated advocate for social change, has been conferred with the prestigious title of Ambassador of Global Peace by the Institute for Global Peace and Conflict Resolution (IGPCR). The recognition honors his steadfast commitment to peacebuilding, conflict management, inter-religious/communal/group dialogue, and advocacy for sustainable development across Nigeria.

The award ceremony, held on May 3rd, 2025, at the Barcelona Hotel in Abuja, brought together dignitaries, civil society leaders, academics, and professionals from diverse sectors to celebrate individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of peace and social justice.

Ambassador David’s tireless efforts to promote unity, human rights and mutual understanding among Nigeria’s diverse communities were highlighted as a benchmark of visionary leadership. His honor underscores the vital role individuals play in driving impactful change through peacebuilding, inclusive dialogue, conflict resolution, and community development.

In collaboration with Protestant University, IGPCR also honored several distinguished individuals with Ambassadorial Awards in recognition of their dedication to peacebuilding, humanitarian service, and ethical leadership. The partnership emphasizes the role of academic institutions in cultivating values of excellence, responsibility, and civic impact.

Ambassador David joins an esteemed group of honorees who embody resilience, selflessness, and the relentless pursuit of peace. His work includes advocacy for marginalized groups in the design and implementation of policies and programmes, active leadership and participation in international peace initiatives, capacity building for community gatekeepers, institutional strengthening and the promotion of educational programs aimed at fostering intercultural understanding and tolerance.

“Peace is the true instrument of growth and sustainable development,” David declared during a press interview. He expressed deep gratitude to the Institute for the recognition and pledged to continue championing peaceful coexistence and sustainable development nationwide.

During his address, David urged Nigerians to embrace peace beginning at the family and community level, noting that interpersonal relationships are foundational to national and global harmony.

He emphasized that peacebuilding must start in everyday interactions—in homes, communities, schools, and workplaces—and called for greater youth involvement in managing conflict and promoting peace initiatives.

“When we raise peaceful homes, we raise peaceful communities, and ultimately, a peaceful nation,” he said. “It pays to embrace and work for peace”

Ambassador David also shared that he has spent a decade working in peacebuilding and conflict management in over 22 states in the federation, investing in grassroots initiatives that promote reconciliation, resilience and stability.

He called on the youth to take ownership of peace efforts and to commit their energy and passion toward building a more secure and united nation.

The event was both a celebration and a call to action—reminding all Nigerians that lasting peace is attainable when individuals and communities work together in empathy, respect, and shared purpose. David’s advocacy serves not only as a personal mission but as a national invitation: to build a peaceful future from the ground up.

As the event unfolded, it became evident that the celebration of the Peace Ambassador awards was more than just a milestone; it was a testament to the unwavering dedication of the awardees in building a shared future for Nigeria, managing conflicts, and fostering peaceful coexistence. It also showcased the incredible ability of the organizers to bring together technocrats, leaders, and visionaries in joyous camaraderie, united by their shared commitment to peace and social progress.
