Ngaski, Kebbi State – May 15, 2025

In a grand display of cultural heritage, unity, and national appreciation, the Ngaski Emirate Council of Kebbi State, under the esteemed leadership of His Royal Highness Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Tanko, has conferred the revered traditional title of First San Turakin Ngaski upon Ambassador Ojo Patrick Idowu (JP), a distinguished Deputy Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The ceremony, held at the ancient palace of Ngaski, brought together royal chiefs, security dignitaries, elders, youth leaders, and traditional dancers in a celebration that reflected the rich customs of the Ngaski people and the evolving role of security institutions in community development.

A Bridge Between Tradition and National Service

The San Turaki title—rooted in centuries of royal tradition—is bestowed upon individuals of noble character, unwavering public service, and notable contributions to communal growth. Ambassador Idowu, recognized nationally for his professionalism and strategic role in civil protection, was honoured not only as a protector of the people but now as a custodian of cultural values.

In his royal address, the Emir of Ngaski, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Tanko, extolled the virtues of the honouree, calling him a man of rare discipline, loyalty, and humility.

“Ambassador Idowu is not only a symbol of security and order but also a friend of the people. Today, we do not merely honour his rank—we honour his humanity, his sacrifice, and his sincere partnership with traditional leadership,” the Emir proclaimed.

The Emir further called for stronger ties between security agencies and traditional rulers in safeguarding peace, especially at the grassroots where royal institutions often serve as the first point of contact in crisis resolution.

A Security Officer Honoured by His People

Clearly moved by the honour, Ambassador Ojo Patrick Idowu expressed his profound gratitude to the Emirate, pledging to use both his title and position to deepen peace, build trust, and promote cultural identity in Kebbi State and beyond.

“To be named San Turakin Ngaski is a call to greater service—not just in uniform, but in spirit. It is a reminder that true security is rooted in unity, respect for tradition, and inclusive development,” he said.

He emphasized that the NSCDC remains committed to collaborating with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and local stakeholders in intelligence gathering, conflict prevention, and youth empowerment.

A Cultural Ceremony Rich with Symbolism

The conferment ceremony was marked by the sounds of drums and flutes, processions of royal guards, and traditional dancers adorned in vibrant regalia. Representatives of the NSCDC, including senior officers from Abuja and Kebbi State Command, praised the Emirate for recognizing one of their own.

Various speakers, including members of the Emirate Council, community leaders, and women’s groups, hailed Ambassador Idowu as a bridge between the traditional and modern Nigeria—a man equally at home in a palace as in the field.

The New San Turakin Ngaski: A Symbol of Peace and Progress

With this honour, Ambassador Idowu joins the council of titleholders whose roles include advising the Emir, mediating local disputes, and mobilizing citizens for communal progress. His unique blend of military discipline and cultural insight places him in a powerful position to shape local peace-building efforts.

As Nigeria continues to confront complex security challenges, the recognition of officers like Idowu signals a renewed respect for grassroots leadership, cultural diplomacy, and the essential alliance between state institutions and traditional authority.

The title of First San Turakin Ngaski is more than an accolade—it is a living legacy of service, respect, and unity between crown and country.
