The Annual Workshop, Induction, and Ambassadorial Award Ceremony organized by the Institute for Global Peace and Conflict Resolution (IGPCR) on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, in Abuja marked a significant milestone in the Institute’s ongoing efforts to promote peace, unity, and sustainable development across Nigeria.

A major highlight of the event was the Institute’s bold announcement to establish 50,000 Peace Clubs in secondary schools nationwide. Described as a strategic move to "catch them young," the initiative aims to instill values of peace, dialogue, and mutual respect in Nigerian youth. This was disclosed during a media briefing by Ambassador  Asiwaju Oludotun Adetunberu, President of the Institute’s Governing Council.

“This bold move represents our commitment to deepening peace-building efforts at the grassroots level,” Ambassador Oludotun Adetunberu stated. “We believe that nurturing the principles of peace and tolerance in young minds will secure a more harmonious future for Nigeria.”

Addressing national security concerns, Ambassador Oludotun remarked that the insecurity crisis in Nigeria is multifaceted and multidimensional, often politicized and ethnically charged—factors which have made it difficult to tackle effectively. He called on the Nigerian President to adopt a firm and decisive approach in dealing with those who perpetrate violence and instability.

Ambassador Oludotun also revealed that the Institute had inducted 32 new Global Peace Ambassadors, who will serve as agents of peace across various sectors.

“It is our duty and mission to raise peace ambassadors who will champion the cause of global peace,” he said.

The event attracted a broad spectrum of stakeholders—government officials, academics, civil society leaders, religious figures, and private sector representatives—all united by a shared vision of building a more peaceful and inclusive nation. Through multi-sectoral engagement, the program explored practical solutions to Nigeria’s pressing socio-political and economic issues.

In collaboration with Protestant University, the Institute conferred Ambassadorial Awards on individuals who have demonstrated excellence in peacebuilding, humanitarian work, ethical leadership, and social impact. This partnership emphasizes the essential role that educational institutions play in promoting ethical values and national development.

Professor Ambrose  Alikidon VOH, the keynote speaker, delivered a compelling lecture on the critical role of ambassadors in peacebuilding. He emphasized that peace is an indispensable asset in nation-building, urging Nigerians to rise above ethnic divisions, prejudice, and political sentiments. His message resonated strongly with participants, especially given the context of Nigeria’s ongoing national challenges.

The ceremony celebrated key values such as unity, inclusiveness, and selfless service, honoring Peace Ambassadors from all backgrounds—regardless of tribe, religion, gender, or political affiliation. This inclusive approach reinforced the Institute’s dedication to diversity and collaboration as powerful tools for healing and progress.

Ambassador Joshua Tarhule, one of the event’s chief organizers and Registrar, expressed gratitude to attendees and pledged the Institute’s commitment to integrating the feedback and ideas shared during the event. His remarks highlighted IGPCR’s focus on innovation, adaptability, and continuous impact.

Among the newly recognized Peace Ambassadors were economists, financial experts, security professionals, industrialists, entertainers, religious leaders, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders—individuals whose efforts have had lasting influence both nationally and internationally.

The event was more than a celebration; it was a powerful call to action, inspiring Nigerians from all walks of life to embrace the values of peace, justice, and collective responsibility in building a stronger and more unified nation.

The Peace Ambassador Awards ceremony was not just a  gathering—it was a call to action. It served as a testament to the power of unified commitment to peaceful coexistence and highlighted the organizers' ability to unite technocrats, leaders, and visionaries in pursuit of a shared goal.

As the event unfolded, it became evident that the celebration of the Peace Ambassador awards was more than just a milestone; it was a testament to the unwavering dedication of the awardees in building a shared future for Nigeria, managing conflicts, and fostering peaceful coexistence. It also showcased the incredible ability of the organizers to bring together technocrats, leaders, and visionaries in joyous camaraderie, united by their shared commitment to peace and social progress.
