Abuja, Nigeria – In a colorful and well-attended ceremony held at the prestigious Sandralia Hotel, Abuja, Assistant Corps Commander Sabitu Abdul, the Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nyanya Unit Command, was conferred with the Fellowship Award of the Institute of Corporate Administration (ICAD).

The event, held on Saturday, celebrated exceptional public servants who have demonstrated unwavering dedication to service, discipline, and leadership within Nigeria’s public administration landscape. Commander Sabitu was recognized for his sterling leadership in traffic management, road safety enforcement, and public enlightenment in the Federal Capital Territory.

Accompanied by members of his unit, the awardee took a moment to reflect on the journey that brought him this far. In his acceptance speech, Abdul expressed deep appreciation to ICAD for the recognition, describing the award as a testament to the unseen sacrifices and persistent efforts of road safety officers across the country.

“This is not just a personal achievement,” he said. “It’s a recognition of the entire FRSC team who work day and night to make our roads safer. It reaffirms that when we serve with sincerity and integrity, people take note.”

Abdul emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility between government agencies and citizens, calling on Nigerians to uphold traffic laws not out of fear of penalties, but out of commitment to preserving lives. He urged road users—drivers, commuters, pedestrians, and motorcyclists—to be more conscious, responsible, and law-abiding.

“The roads don’t kill; it’s the human factor that often turns vehicles into instruments of tragedy,” he stated. “We must collectively change the culture of recklessness, speeding, and disregard for road signs. Safety begins with each of us.”

He also commended the Federal Road Safety Corps for continuing to uphold professionalism and discipline, despite the challenges of modern traffic management in a rapidly growing urban population.

The Institute of Corporate Administration, in its remarks, hailed Abdul as a model officer whose commitment exemplifies the principles of good governance, ethical leadership, and accountability in public service. The Fellowship Award, according to ICAD, is reserved for individuals who demonstrate high standards of integrity, public service excellence, and commitment to nation-building.

As the ceremony ended, attendees—including government officials, security personnel, and civil society leaders—applauded the recognition, agreeing that Nigeria needs more public servants like Commander Sabitu who lead by example and prioritize the safety and welfare of the people.

The event not only highlighted a personal achievement but also cast a spotlight on the broader issues of road safety, responsible governance, and the need for an engaged citizenry that values life and law.

This recognition of Assistant Corps Commander Sabitu Abdul serves as a reminder that the work of the FRSC is not only essential but deeply valued. As frontline agents in the fight to reduce road crashes and save lives, road safety officers carry a heavy but honorable burden. Their commitment, often under harsh and dangerous conditions, reflects the spirit of public service at its finest.

In honoring one of their own, the message is clear: every act of diligence, every hour spent on the road, every life saved counts. The FRSC remains a pillar of safety on Nigeria’s highways—its personnel not just enforcing laws, but upholding the sanctity of life.

As Nigeria continues its journey toward improved governance and infrastructure, the role of road safety personnel cannot be overstated. They are not just officers in uniform—they are guardians of public safety, and their work must continue to be recognized, supported, and celebrated.
