In a profound call to action, renowned Islamic scholar and humanitarian advocate, Dr. Umar Suleiman Umar, CEO of Drusa Charity Foundation, has commended the Abuja-based Muslim Ummah for their inspiring efforts in establishing Waqf (Islamic endowment) institutions. He emphasized the urgent need for Nigerian Muslims to make Waqf a central part of their lives and legacy.

Dr. Umar made these remarks during a high-profile Islamic gathering held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Women Development Centre, Abuja, with the theme:
“Waqaf: A Blessing to the Muslim Ummah in This World.”

The event brought together Islamic scholars, professionals, and community leaders from across Nigeria to explore the strategic potential of Waqf for sustainable development, social justice, and spiritual growth.

“Waqaf will now be a part of our lives,” said Dr. Umar. “I’m deeply impressed and inspired by the vision and determination shown by the Abuja-based Ummah. This initiative is timely and necessary for our collective growth as a community and as a nation.”

Through his Drusa Charity Foundation, Dr. Umar has empowered countless underprivileged individuals, providing education, livelihood support, and healthcare assistance. His foundation continues to be a beacon of hope for the vulnerable, reflecting the true spirit of Waqf in practice.

“Waqaf is not just about buildings or land,” Dr. Umar said. “It is about building people, uplifting lives, and ensuring no one is left behind.”

Urging attendees to internalize the event’s teachings, Dr. Umar called on Muslims to embody values of integrity, compassion, and unity in their pursuit of impactful Waqf projects.

“Let us leverage the teachings shared today and embody unwavering commitment to our Ummah. The strength of our community lies in our unity and our love for one another,” he said.

Dr. Umar stressed that Waqaf is not merely an act of charity, but a divinely ordained system rooted in the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). When properly established and maintained, it has the power to transform communities, alleviate poverty, empower institutions, and secure ongoing spiritual reward (sadaqah jariyah) for the donor.

“It is essential for us to know that before we leave this world, we should have something that will serve as residual income to us in the next life,” Dr. Umar declared. “Waqaf is that mechanism — a mercy from Allah that sustains communities and brings us lasting reward.”

“It is Da’awah in action — service to Allah through service to humanity,” he added.
