Youth Coalition Calls For Natasha Recall, Drums Support For Akpabio

A coalition of Nigerian youth leaders has called for the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan following her recent suspension from the Senate. This demand comes amid allegations of misconduct and a controversial claim of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which the coalition labeled as politically motivated.

The youth leaders criticized Akpoti-Uduaghan's behavior in the Senate and expressed dissatisfaction with her representation of Kogi Central, stating that her actions were an attempt to manipulate public opinion for personal gain. They have urged for a fresh election to replace her, emphasizing the need for a "fit and proper occupant" in her position

During a world press conference in Abuja, Chief Victor Thompson, the convener of a youth coalition, called for the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. He characterized her as a "serial accuser" and criticized her for what he deemed reckless and damaging actions, particularly her recent allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Thompson noted that this is not the first time Akpoti-Uduaghan has made such accusations against prominent Nigerian politicians, suggesting that she has developed a pattern of accusing men of sexual harassment whenever disagreements arise.
Furthermore, the coalition pledged support for genuine victims of harassment while condemning Akpoti-Uduaghan's behavior as detrimental to women's representation in politics. They called for the Senate to disregard her petition and refrain from using taxpayer money to investigate what they term "fraudulent accusations," expressing their unconditional support for Akpabio and emphasizing the need to maintain the integrity of the legislative process.

The coalition's stance reflects broader concerns regarding Akpoti-Uduaghan's behavior in the Senate, particularly following her suspension for alleged misconduct. This situation has sparked significant debate and protests within Nigeria, highlighting the complexities surrounding accusations of sexual harassment in a male-dominated political environment.

The coalition of Nigerian youth leaders has called for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to immediately retract her allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and apologize to both him and the Senate as a whole. During a press conference, Chief Victor Thompson emphasized that the Senate should be treated with dignity, stating, "The Senate is not a night club; we must protect the dignity of the hallowed chamber."

The coalition criticized Akpoti-Uduaghan for her history of making serious allegations against prominent politicians, suggesting that her actions are damaging to the integrity of the legislative institution. They argue that such behavior undermines the seriousness of genuine claims of misconduct and creates an environment of distrust within the Senate.

This call for retraction and apology comes in the wake of Akpoti-Uduaghan's suspension following her allegations of sexual harassment against Akpabio, which were dismissed by the Senate's ethics committee on procedural grounds. The coalition's stance reflects broader concerns about maintaining decorum and accountability within Nigeria's political landscape.

The youth coalition has strongly condemned Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stating that she has set a poor example for her generation and future leaders. They characterized her actions as "ignominious, disgraceful, ludicrous, preposterous, nonsensical, and completely unworthy" of her position as a senator in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 

The coalition's statement emphasizes that her manipulative and unscrupulous tendencies will be remembered negatively, asserting the need for accountability in political representation. 

The call for the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio has sparked significant debate, with concerns about setting a dangerous precedent in Nigerian politics. A coalition of youth leaders cautioned against the implications of such demands, arguing that if individuals could simply make allegations to force resignations, it could undermine political stability. They emphasized the need for careful consideration, stating, "If I want my governor to be removed, I could simply cause similar allegations against him and expect him to resign."

"In their statement, they warned  those supporting Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, urging them to cease undermining the leadership of Nigeria's legislature or risk facing public backlash. They specifically referenced former Senate President Bukola Saraki, reminding the public of his alleged involvement in the notorious Offa bank robbery, which resulted in the deaths of many, including a pregnant woman. 

The coalition emphasized that Saraki has yet to adequately explain his connection to the crime while criticizing him for attacking current Senate President Godswill Akpabio. They asserted that Akpabio is "hundreds of percent" better than Saraki, highlighting the need for accountability and integrity in political discourse. 

They  pledged unwavering support for all noble women who have lost their voices due to the actions of individuals like Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. They expressed their commitment to stand by genuine victims of harassment and abuse, emphasizing the importance of amplifying women's voices in the face of adversity.

The group condemned Akpoti-Uduaghan's behavior, labeling her as a charlatan whose actions undermine the credibility of women who truly suffer from harassment. They argue that her manipulative tendencies detract from the serious issues faced by genuine victims, thereby harming the broader movement for women's rights in Nigeria.

The group criticized Akpoti-Uduaghan's actions, arguing that her allegations are unfounded and detrimental to the Senate's reputation. They stated that allowing such petitions could set a dangerous precedent, where individuals might make baseless claims against political leaders to achieve personal or political goals. This warning reflects their commitment to uphold the dignity of Nigeria's legislative body and protect it from what they perceive as manipulative tactics.
