The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), led by its President, QS Kene C Nzekwe , has inducted an unprecedented 286 new members into the corporate membership cadre of the body.
QS Kene Nzekwe , FNIQS, inducted qualified new members into the corporate membership cadre of the professional body, at the two-day national workshop held by the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, NIQS.
Newsway Media reports that the prestigious event took place at the M&M Event Center in Abuja, from Wednesday 21st to Thursday 22nd, 2024 with members cut across the country who were present on the occasion, climaxed with the induction ceremony held on Thursday.
The workshop attracted an array of distinguished guests, including the National President of the Association, QS Kene Nzekwe, professor Olubola Babalola,FNIQS, Dr.Celestina Eke , FNIQS, Obafemi Onashile, and Prominent professionals, captains of industry and budding quantity surveyors also attended.

President of the Institute, Qs.Kene Nzekwe, announced this in his opening remarks at the national workshop of the institute, with the theme “Innovative and Sustainable Construction Practices – Building a Resilient Cost-based and Knowledge-driven Industry with Integrity, which started in Abuja yesterday.”
He said: “I am pleased to announce to our guests that the Institute has embarked on a significant initiative, the development of a comprehensive cost databank.
“This databank when completed will serve as a critical tool for enhancing transparency and accountability in the construction sector, allowing for effective monitoring and regulation of construction costs at local, state, and federal levels.
“With this resource, we can ensure that every Naira spent on construction projects is accounted for, and that value for money is consistently achieved.”
Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, founded in 1969, is an independent professional body responsible for total cost and procurement management, aiming to achieve clients objectives in capital projects and developments from conception to commissioning and maintenance, across all sectors of the economy for sustainable national development.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Nzekwe, emphasized the importance of continuous professional development in maintaining high industry standards, and the roles of quantity surveyors in ensuring cost efficiency, project quality, and sustainability.
