Olaoye Abdukareem Olatunji Inducts As Registered Quantity Surveyors As NIQS Holds Nation Conference

It was a Moment of glamour, thrills and frills yesterday as Alaoye Abdukareem Olatunji was inducted into the membership of Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors.

The Nigerian Institute of Quantity  Surveyors (NIQS), led by its President, QS Kene C Nzekwe , has inducted an unprecedented 286 new members into the corporate membership cadre of the body.

 QS Kene Nzekwe , FNIQS, inducted qualified new members into the corporate membership cadre of the professional body, at the two-day national workshop held by the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, NIQS. 

Newsway Media reports that the prestigious event took place at the M&M Event Center in Abuja, from Wednesday 21st to Thursday 22nd, 2024 with members cut across the country who were present on the occasion, climaxed with the induction ceremony held on Thursday.

QS Alaoye Abdukareem while speaking with Newsway Media thanked the organizer and the management of the institute, described the certification as dream comes true. He promised to uphold the ethical conduct of the institute and Worth ambassador of the profession

Speaking after the ceremony, he thanked God for making it possible for him to be among 286 members to be inducted 

"He said that his elevation to the status of member of the institute would spur him for greater achievements in his professional career and urged quantity surveyors in Nigeria  who are yet to be inducted into the NIQS to be honest, hardworking and diligent.

QS Abdukareem added that they should seek first, the professional satisfaction in the profession to enable them get qualified into the institute.

The workshop attracted an array of distinguished guests, including the National President of the Association, QS Kene Nzekwe, professor Olubola Babalola,FNIQS, Dr.Celestina Eke , FNIQS, Obafemi Onashile, and Prominent professionals, captains of industry and budding quantity surveyors also attended.

The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors has called on the government to involve quantity surveyors in all construction projects across the country.

This appeal was made by the President of NIQS, Kene Nzekwe , at a national workshop organised by NIQS, themed “Innovative and Sustainable Construction Practices: Building a Resilient Cost-Based and Knowledge-Driven Industry with Integrity,” held in Abuja on Wednesday 

Kene emphasised the critical role of quantity surveyors in ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of efficiency and sustainability.

“Our profession, rooted in the principles of financial probity and accountability, plays an indispensable role in the life cycle of all construction projects,” he said.

"He noted that involving quantity surveyors in construction projects would ensure that national resources are judiciously managed and development goals are met with integrity and professionalism.

The NIQS President also announced the development of a comprehensive cost databank, which would serve as a critical tool for enhancing transparency and accountability in the construction sector.

Nzekwe expressed his appreciation to the guests, participants, and partners for their commitment to the advancement of the profession and the construction industry.

He expressed confidence that the workshop would serve as a platform for insightful discussion, innovative ideas, and collaborative efforts to drive the industry forward.

Obafemi Onashile asked the new inductees to display not only professional conduct, but also passion that would promote the profession both in Nigeria and outside the shores of the country.

As the event unfolded, it became evident that the induction ceremony was more than just a milestone; it was a testament to the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors in building resilence and integrity for the future of NIQS profession, and its ability to bring technocrats together in joyous camaraderie.
