US Independence: Permanent Representative of African Union, Tom Harps on Peace

In commemoration of United States of America Independence Day Celebration on Thursday , the Permanent Representative of African Union, International Association of World Peace Advocate (IAWPA),  Engr. Amb. John Tom has called on Nigerians to embrace peace in order to live as one country. 

Recall that By issuing the Declaration of Independence, adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4th 1776, the 13 American colonies severed their political connections to Great Britain and gain their freedoms. 

Speaking during an interview with Newsmen in Abuja at the International Association of World Peace Advocate, Engr Tom said "As advocates of peace we need to recognize the importance of living in a peaceful environment which is merely the absence of conflict and the presence of justice, equality and opportunities for all. 

" In a peaceful atmosphere the society can achieve significant progress and development in education, economic growth and community prosperity. 

According to him the current insecurity situation in Nigeria and other African states underscores the urgent need for sustained peace building efforts as we can draw lessons from America pursuit for peace decades with dialogues, perseverance and cooperation till they triumphed. 

He stressed that the way forward for Nigeria and other African allies lies on embracing dialogue, fostering understanding and building bridges across diverse communities by working together to identify the roots causes of conflict such as inequality, injustice and poverty.

" Through advocacy, education, community engagement we can create a culture of peace that transcends borders and generations."

The International Director of IAWPA Amb. Prof. Chidi Ehiriodo summoned that the initiative is targeted at celebrating American contributions to the United Nations (UN) both in formation and support in holding the ideal and sustainable UN. 

He tasked on the 10 appointed Ambassadors to undertake the commitment in reaching out their residents and communities to propagate peace and sustainable development goals. 

On his part, the International Spokesman of IAWPA, Amb. Dr Emmanuel Nkweke stressed on the need for Government at all levels and stakeholders to deliberately introduce polices and programmes that will sustain peace in the country as we have no any other country than here. 

Some of the Peace Ambassadorial Appointees, Dr. Edwin Osa Igili- Edwards lauded the gesture saying that he will play a vital role in promoting peace in the society. 

Also, Amb. Barr. Yelwa Abubakar and Amb. Titi Saleh Hamawa emphasized that despite the economic situations in the country embracing peace will heals the wounds and reduces criminal activities in the country.
