Workers Day: We Have Come To Celebrate Ourselves Amid Hardship - Comrade JAMA MEDAN

By Genesis Ogiri, Abuja

As Nigerian workers  join their counterparts globally to mark International Workers’ Day, commonly known as May Day,  Comrade Jama O. MEDAN , Chairman NANNM FCT Chapter has said that, "we have come to celebrate ourselves amid Economic hardship and Mass suffering

“In an unprecedented manner and condescending of both the Nigerian worker and the general public, this current federal government announced a unilateral removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit without consultations with representatives of the Nigerian worker.

“The continued increase in tariffs in different service offerings without addressing the corruption and inefficiencies in the system only amounts to long-suffering Nigerians subsidising the corruption and inefficiencies in the system.”

" He lamented that  “As the socioeconomic realities affect workers, so also they affect employers. Nobody is immune to the hardships and socioeconomic realities including the ongoing increase of prices of  food stuffs.

"The cost of living has been criminally high, unemployment, poverty and insecurity of life and property are just beyond description. The  experience of this year was really bad.”

He expressed delight and thanked the members of NANNM for participating this year workers' Day.

This came as workers in the petroleum, electricity, maritime, manufacturing, Education , privates,  and other sectors, decried the present level of misery, poverty and hopelessness across the country.

"He urged the government to address the worsening poverty, insecurity, unemployment, inflation, high cost of living and frustration in the nation.

"We call on the government to be more assertive on the welfare of Nigerian workers , government should eradicate slavery employment policies that dehumanise Nigerians in their fatherland.

The petrol subsidy is purportedly gone; yet its impact lingers – revealing the ineptitude of the current federal government.
