Angela, Bekwarra Council Boss, Bags Rootswatch Distinguished Merit Award, Lauds Gov Bassey.

The Head of local government  Administration ( HOLGA)  Bekwarra LGA, Cross River State , Mrs. Angela Ugbut -Agboje, on Wednesday, bagged the best performing local government chairman Merit award. 

In a remarkable journey of unwavering determination and a commitment to serve humanity,  Mrs. Angela has ascended to new heights in leadership. Her extraordinary contributions to individual and societal development have earned her the prestigious best local government merit Award of the year 2024, by the Rootswatch Magazine 

The ceremony which took place in Abuja  on Wednesday, at merit House , maitama,  attracted dignitaries from different works of life to grace the occasion. 

Angela, among other local government chairmen, was given the award at the Rootwatch magazine’s 23rd distinguished local government chairmen merit award and launch of the magazine’s special edition.

The chairman is known for her quality leadership through service delivery and accountability in Bekwarra local government area of cross River State 

NEWSWAY media reports that Angela's life story is a testament to the power of resilience, ambition, and seizing opportunities. her early years were marked by a relentless desire to succeed and a profound hunger for Education. She  understood that Education was the key to a brighter future. She embarked on an unconventional path to achieve her  dreams despite the state of her life.

"It was learnt that, this award is in lieu of her great passion for humanity as a woman of high repute and hard working, goal oriented individual, who places a great value on her integrity with achievements in youth empowerment and development as a leadership dexterity par excellence”

In an interview with NEWSWAY, the Council Boss expressed satisfaction and thanked the Almighty God for the privilege of life. 

" She thanked the administration of  the Governor of cross River State, his Excellency, senator Bassey Otu, for the opportunity to serve. 

"She stated that, the government of his Excellency, senator Bassey Otu , did not discriminate, despite my challenges he gave me the opportunity to serve.

"She said the award would further spur her to work harder in pursuing people-centred programmes.

Angela, reiterated her renewed commitment to work harder in delivering democracy dividends to the people of her council area and lauded the Governor of Cross River State, senator Bassey Otu  for giving  the opportunity and the necessary support and encouragement to work in the state thereby making it possible for her to qualify for the receive of the coveted award.

Mrs.Agboje is a proven administrator, organiser and strategist, she has brought her wealth of experience garnered over the years in various capacities at different times to bear in her administration of Bekwarra local government area much to the delight of the people.

"She is a visionary and firebrand Administrator whose burning desire to provide quality leadership is unquenchable. She has fire in her belly and still has a lot in her ever fecund mind to do for the people of Bekwarra local government area. 

"She is one that even a casual observer will look at and say unsolicited, that Yes, we have a Head of Local Government Administration in Bekwarra.

"Her sterling achievements today as HOLGA is not overly not surprising especially if one considers how she, at various times, worked in one way or the other in the construction of the New Customary Court Hall, grading of Akwrinyi road leading to the palace of HRM, the Paramount Ruler of Bekwarra LGA, construction of Nyanya -Otukpuru road, construction of culvert on Ascension Church Road, and Nyanya, Akwrinyi bridge backfilling project.

"Other giant strides of the Holga within the Council includes: Tiling of staff offices/renovation of administrative block, renovation of NULGE Office/Canteen, Paramount Ruler’s Block, Drug Store, Security Post, repairs of BoreHole for efficient water supply in the Council Secretariat, and general face lift of the Council Secretariat.

The aforementioned projects have been achieved only as a result of the proactive leadership prowess of the Holga and the collective efforts of the council staff. She has assured the people that her administration will continue to ensure maximum peace and unity.

The Council Boss, dedicated the Award to her late mother for not giving up on her education, despite been a disabled child. She expressed delight that, her parents never dispised her but passed through pain to see her become relevant in life and to the society.

The award, according to the Chairman of the Rootswatch editorial board, Prince Bayode Ojo, was designed to showcase the impactful achievements of local government helmsmen and reward excellence in grassroots governance.

The Management of Rootswatch Magazine, a grassroots oriented publication, has  honoured 22 outstanding local government chairmen from across the states

Earlier in an address, the Editor-in-Chief of Rootswatch Magazine and National Coordinator of Rootswatch Distinguished Local Government Chairmen Merit Award, Mr. Bayode Ojo, explained that the award was instituted about ten years ago, as part of core mandate of repositioning local government for service delivery through reward system.

According to him, Rootswatch award has cut a niche for itself by ensuring that processes leading to the choice of winners are credible by ensuring that members of the public who are the direct beneficiaries of the stewardship of the council chairmen are involved in the rigorous screening processes, from nomination in response to advertisements in National Dailies as well as Electronic Media.

He stressed that the awardees, “have truly impacted positively on their council areas” and therefore worthy of the honour.
The event, beyond its celebratory nature, served as a testament to Angela's  pursuit of positive change and  contributions to the local the area . As the nation craves progress for hardworking , integrity and good governance, Hon.Angela 's award stands as a beacon, inspiring future generations and encouraging a shift toward results oriented pursuit and good human relations in the realm of  purposeful living.
