The Executive Governor of Benue State, his Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia joined and welcomed dignitaries across the length and breath of the country at St. Christopher Catholic Church Wannune, Tarkaa LGA of Benue State to celebtate the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, his Excellency, Sen. Dr. George Akume on his 70th Birthday/Homecoming since his appointment as the SGF by the President.

Speaking at the event, Gov. Alia said he was thankful to God for the life of Sen. Akume, whom he described as the encyclopedia of Benue and North Central Politic, having contributed in different capacities towards the growth and development of our dear State and country at large. He further emphasized on unity amongst Benue sons and daughters, saying it is the only path way towards achieving results.

The Governor warned strongly against those who delight in sowing seeds of discord to cause confusion, bickering and altercation, stressing that there is no room for cracks in the APC family in Benue State, while also calling on all Benue citizens to join hands with him to move the State forward.

In his remarks, the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, his Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, represented by his amiable wife, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu appreciates God for the life of the Celebrant, saying he has contributed enormously to the development of Statehood, adding that their relationship with the Akume's family is one that has gone a long way and have yielded fruits of unimaginable harvest.

She therefore applauded Gov. Alia's developmental strides in the State within the shortest time of his takeover, while also assuring him of their support towards achieving greater things for the good people of Benue State.

Responding, Sen. Akume said he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from the Benue people, his political associates and all those who traveled far and wide to grace the occasion of his 70th birthday/homecoming. He singled out in appreciation, his boss, President Tinubu for finding him worthy to serve in his administration in the capacity of the SGF, while also promising to justify the confidence reposed in him by putting all mechanisms in place towards achieving the "Renewed Hope" agenda encapsulated in his manifesto.

The Celebrant therefore sued for unity of purpose and as well call on all Nigerians to support and pray for President Tinubu, Gov. Alia and himself to succeed in their various positions.

Earlier in his homily, the Bishop of Katsina-Ala Diocese, Most Revd. Isaac Dugu pointed out that God has been so propitious to Benue State by exalting one of its illustrious sons to a position never witnessed before. While speaking to the SGF and Gov. Alia, the Bishop has this to say and I quote;
"Dear senator  Sen George Akume and Governor Hyacinth Alia, Benue state is the most blessed State in the country at the moment, because it has a knighted Catholic as Secretary to the Government of the Federation and also a Catholic Priest as it's Governor. Both of you are prominent Catholics, who must work and walk together to serve, to save, to protect and to help Benue State. If Benue state does not get it right even this time, it may never get it right again!  Make sure Benue gets it right and posterity will be most pleased with both of you".

Othe dignitaries at the occasion were; the National Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Umaru Ganduje, Gov. Kefas Agbu and Gov. Dapo Abiodun, Governors of Taraba and Ogun State respectively, former SGF, Boss Mustafa, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu amongst others.
